OK, here's the problem: My right rear speaker on my Z-640s is apparently dead. Can't get anything more than a very soft sound out of it. Also, I need to know what Soundstorm settings to use. The settings are as follows:
Dolby Surround Encoding: When on, the left sounds come from the left front, right sounds from right front, center from both front speakers, rear also a mix of both front speakers. When off, left comes from left front, right comes from right front, center comes from left rear and left rear comes from center. I'll check the connections, but I'm pretty sure they're correct.
Create Center Channel: With this on, and surround off, I can play music and get sound from all speakers except the right rear. With it off, I lose the sound from the left rear.
Center Channel 3D Pan: No effect as far as I can tell.
Create LFE Channel: No effect as far as I can tell. Wait, just noticed it turns sub on and off. Doesn't seem to work with surround on.
Rear Speaker Phase Shift: Causes me to lose bass.
Sorry, I had more info before, but lost my post and didn't want to have to type everything up again. Also, the volume control does weird things:
Premix Volume Levels:
Rear Left: With Surround on, adjusts the front speakers. With surround off, adjusts the center. With surround off, also adjusts sub. I'm thinking I have the center and rear left connections wrong.
Left: Adjusts left front.
Center: Does nothing unless create center channel is turned on. With that on, it adjusts the front speakers with surround on. With surround off, it adjusts the left rear speaker. More that suggests the center and left rear are connected wrong, but that's not my main problem.
Right: Adjusts right front.
Right Rear: Adjusts sub. All the way up, I get very soft sound from my right rear, which further leads me to believe that that speaker is dead. With surround on, adjusts the front speakers.
Sub: Adjusts sub. Only works with LFE Channel on and surround off.
So, what do you guys think? Right rear dead? What settings should I use once I get my speakers working? What does center channel 3D pan do? What bonuses come from rear speaker phase shift, or does it only cause me to lose my bass?
Update: Got my problem fixed. Problem was, the black connector on the I/O shield is Center/Sub, and the orange is rear. I guess Logitech does things differently, because when I plugged the orange logitech input into the black connector, and the black input into the orange connector, everything worked great. Still wondering about those settings though, what's best? I seem to have surround with surround off, and no surround with it on!?! Is that normal? Anyway, I've got Create Center Channel, Center Channel 3D Pan and Create LFE channel on, everything else off, and I'm getting great sound.
