I have a CNET 10/100 PRO200 NIC.

Well, Recently [ as in, having taken the computer out of storage to set it back up ] I went to reconnect it through my new network and am having problems.

Windows 98 sees the NIC at bootup, and asks to install the drivers for it when windows comes up, However it will not accept the drivers for it. They ARE the right drivers, but it says they are wrong.

and I've tried everything, aside from moving it to a different PCI slot..'

So..is my NIC dead?

NICs do die, but not often...
It seems far more likely to me that Win9x is having fits :)

What I would do is this:
Reboot into Win98, do NOT install the drivers- instead, tell the OS you are removing the nic.
Reboot into windows, make sure everything else is running ok as much as you can and then shut down.

Reinstall the NIC.

I have seen that work with Win9x before...
Good luck.

Doh!

While reading the quoted text I noticed that I missed the part about actually physically removing the NIC! lol

That always seemed to be very important when getting Win9x un-screwed.
