i just did a benchmark on my hard drives and it says that i should turn off acoustic managment on my harddrives to get more performance, and says i need to get the drivers before i can do it or something. first of all is it a good idea to turn that off besides that fact that it will make more noise, which i dont care about? and if its ok how do i do it?

Sometimes you can download utilities from the manufacturer's website, or you can boot off those floppies the come with them, and sometimes there are options in there.

Like Rav said, you should be able to get the utilites you need from the manufacturers website, or else with the software that came with the drive.

You can safely turn it off, but it all depends on what your preference is. From my understanding it does lower the sound of your HD by a noticeable amount, but at a cost in speed. But most hard drives don't emit unbearable noise, so your ears should be fine if you turn it off.

you can use the "ibm/hitachi feature tool" on almost any harddisk to change the acoustic management setting.

But let me tell you some disks are real screamers e.g. the western digitals are really loud and have a annoying high pitch

So decide for your self :D
