The 1.1 i got cant even do more than 1260 with 1.85 voltage with window and case open, system at 10c but wont go higher at all. and its an FOP38. If i run it at default speed/votlage with the chase closed and a system temp of 26-27c the cpu is running at 50c with prime95 running, and it seems to just get hotter for everyday. so how the hell can i cool it under 45c at load with air cooling? also the fop38 is just too damn LOADY. Do i really need to have it in a fridge or something just to run it stable at default speed?

Anyone else who have troubles like this?? when i get home i can post the manufactory code.

If you do the math, your FOP38 is working in the zone it is spec'd for. You need a cooler case temp or better HSF. Temps running Prime95 are going to be hotter than the average you encounter running a broad spectrum of non-stressing programs you normally encounter in use.

According to Radiate.exe, 1260 @ 1.85V = 74W
Core temp 50 - System temp 27 = 23C
23C / 74W = .31C/W

See my sig regarding T-bird idle vs P95 temps.

I just ran those numbers on my system, currently my CPU is at 922 (I had to back it down a bit) at 1.75 v which according to radiate is 51 watts, system temp is 21c and CPU temp is 35c. I did the math (51w/21c=.41176547) is that about right for an Alpha PAL 6035?

Oooops had that backwards 21c/51w=.4117647. sorry

I have a 1.1 T-Bird as well. A real early one. Code AJFA. It is real sensitive to overclocking with the heat issue. At 50 C you need to cool it down. I'm at 1287 (12.5x103) @ 1.80 volts running around 37 C all the time even with load like 39 C depending on how hot it is that day. Have GlobalWin WBK 38 w/ Arctic Silver II and major case fans and ventilation.
My issue I believe not getting higher is because of the KT133 chipset, but I ordered a KT 133A, so we will see if bumping up the FSB results in a higher stable overclock.

If you can't play networked UT stable for an hour, then it aint really stable!

I have a 1.1ghz t-bird (codeAXHA) and this thing is even stable at 1133mhz....only 1.1ghz Tell me that doesn't suck. BTW, this is water-cooled. But don't feel bad for me, I just got an AXIA 1ghz T-bird that i am running at 1.4ghz rock stable. This 1.1 ghz will go in a linux box im going to build.

From what I could find, it looks like the 6035 is rated for around .37c/w. .41 is not that far off. It could be the difference of which grease you use or how straight it rests upon the core, or whether it had a POS thermal interface pad, etc.

Glad to see this topic,Most heat sink reviews deal with lower powered processors, the 1.2 or 1.3 are a new area that most of todays heat sinks cant keep up with,On an overclock situation.

Thus some companys are making pure copper heatsinks. The only other system is water cooling.Or the peliter systems.

Water seems to be the option for proper cooling of high gig processors. And is safer then the peliter.

Well I'm using the Artic Silver, but I do have one of those shims under there cause I dont want to break the core. That is probably what is keeping the temps up. Thats ok, my watercooling kit should be on my doorstep when I get home from work today and then it's on!!!!

im using globalwin thermalpaste(goop) on the package it says SILICONE HEAT PASTE AK-100. I havent checked the serial number on it yet but its manufactured in 1999 it says. The chip looks purple or blue. not green like my duron does. But i really cant have more noise than i got with the fop38 its just too load. I would be happy if i just could run it reliable on standard speed but it dosent seem like its possible with aircooling:(

And i cant affourd watercooling and im also NOT experiensed with it at all.
I just whish i had waited one more month for the axih version.

Will it help if i put arctic silver on??? and how much do i need. I would be most happy if i could put my fop32 back on since its a bit too noisy for me.

Btw the case temp is 27 and right now and cpu 42idle with fop38.
I got 2 case fans right now. one blowing air into the case right beside the heatsink and one over the psu sucking air out. I can fit one in the front also but dunno if it helps much.

Thx for all the replys:)

Tomas, at this point, about all you can do is try lapping the base of the FOP38. That will help a few degrees. Using Arctic Silver may help a few degrees also. That is 2x a few degrees. There are good procedures for lapping listed around the various OC sites. There are quieter fans available that do well. The 80mm Panaflo 47cfm fan readily adapts to the FOP heatsink, cools better and is considerably more quiet than the 60mm Delta 38 cfm.
That is all I can think of to help you. You can get the Panaflo from http://www.millisec.com

If you are using a shim, I hope you took the pads off the TBird. I have seen several articles where having the two on together have resulted in fried CPUs, because the HSF doesn't seat properly. That could be your problem right there.

The shim has little holes for the pads so everything seated real nice. It's a moot point now though as I installed an Aqua Stealth water cooling kit tonight. That Sunon 120mm fan is super loud though, much louder that the delta 38 that was on my Alpha. It seems to be a tradeoff, 5-7 degrees cooler = 10 db's louder.

thx again.

But does anyone of u have any theory why mine is much hotter than others on the same speed?? If i did know there where so much trouble i would NEVER have bought it.
