i was in a hurry to get my Tbird running so i used the only heatsink i had....with those thermal pads.

now i wanted to change the sink and the darn pad has spread over a good part of the Tbird.

Can i clean it with alcohol or nail polish remover? im a bit skeptical...i dont wanna ruin my AXIA.

I have used nail polish remover on a variety of chip types from my celeron, to ram and my tnt2u card successfully

I used some Zippo lighter fluid on a paper towel with great results. Just keep using a clean part of the towel untill the chip is clean.

Sometimes with the pads, you have to take a razor blade scraper andgently and carefully scrape off the crap from the pad, and then remove the residue with acetone, or isopropyl alcohol.

If you are brave, you can lap your chip using 2000 grit paper with water. Do this after scraping and cleaning all of the old goop off the chip. As the numbers start to dissapear, get a fresh sheet of 2000 grit and use Artic Silver as the lubricant. Use a 10 to 20 power loop to check your work. If you see copper, you have gone to far and your CPU is probably toast.

Disclamer: It's worked for me, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
