Can anyone tell me what would happen if you have a dead CPU? When I start up the comp, will I see the boot screen? Can I get into the BIOS? Will it just power up and have a blank screen?

I have a mobo and a cpu that were shipped to me a while back. Looks like the HSF came loose during shipping, and damaged the cpu and/or the mobo. but I only have one other working cpu to help check what is broke.

If the mobo is dead, will anything happen if I stick the working CPU into it? Will it start to boot at all? Or just stay ata blank screen?

- Thanks.

You will not see anything if the cpu is dead.

you will see nothing and get either a voice (asus speech post reporter...if it has that option) saying NO CPU...or warning beeps that will sound like a police car sitting right next to you...

If the MB is dead...then it wont power up at all usally...

So without having a spare cpu and mobo to use for testing, there's no symptoms which could lead me to believe it's either the cpu or the mobo that's broken?

If I do get ahold of a spare mobo and cpu, can I safely put it together with a borken part? Or is there a risk of ruining the good part?

- Thanks

test a known good CPU in the suspect board. . you shouldnt have any issues if the board is DOA. If however the board comes alive wsith the good CPU then perhaps your other chips is bad. . place that suspect chip in a known good board and see if it powers. if the chip is bad you will see NO video.

Good luck

Generally motherboards will give some sort of POST/voice code if the CPU is bad. Usually if the motherboard is dead, then nothing will happen except the fans will spin up.
