I have decided to buy my friend's Slot-A Athlon 700, and I have a few questions.
First question.
This friend has been having lockup problems on his computer, so he is upgrading to a 1.2GHZ T-Bird with an Asus motherboard. I am going to buy his old Athlon 700. I just want to know if anyone else has lockup problems with their Athlon 700, and if this would be a bad purchase for $50 (he is a good friend, so I dont mind paying that much for processor+nice fan)
Second question.
I am NOT sticking with his HP motherboard. What is a really good Slot A motherboard for under, say, $110 that will give me the best functionality and overclockability?
Third question.
I AM ABSOLUTELY GOING TO OVERCLOCK. I havent cracked open his processor case yet, is there any real reason I should, besides cooling? How much hotter does this processor run with the case on? He has a large heatsink with two larger than stock fans on it (don't know exact specs on it) with some generously applied thermal grease.
Fourth question.
The above questions answered, what speed would be safe, but worth my effort to o/c to, using what FSB, multiplier, and voltage? What temperatures am I going to be looking at?
Fifth question.
Uhh, I am willing to do about anything to anything, I build computers all day for my job. Is there anything else I should know, since I am relatively new at performance overclocking?
BTW, I was planning to go up to at least 800, hopefully 900 if possible. 235w PS going to be enough wattage to drive this thing? Otherwise, I will have to get a better one. :(
