I bought a t-bird 1gig 266fsb. I can only get it to boot @7.5x and the highest I can go on the fsb is 115 stable. I havent tried to unlock it yet just in case its messed up and have to return it. Ive tried to reset the CMOS, up the core voltage, up the I/O voltage, set the fsb and multiplier manually but to no avail. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I listed all the components in my sys. if that helps at all.

Don't send it back! That's a 1gig AXIA chip there, and as you may have heard recently the AXIA's seem to be the best overclockers. I'd have thought it ought to go to 1.2gig without too much trouble (assuming good cooling). The mutliplier won't change until you unlock the chip, no matter what you set it to in bios or by jumpers, hence only being able to use the 7.5x multiplier. With the 266MHz fsb chips (133 'DDR') you want to fsb overclock by raising the fsb above 133MHz, not lowering it to 100 and then raising it. If you can get to 115MHz (with a PCI divisor of 1/3), that's a PCI speed of 38MHz. Above 133MHz then, with a divisor of 1/4, you ought to be able to get 38x4=152MHz. Even if your RAM can't handle that, 145 ought to be possible. That'd give you 7.5x145=1087.5MHz cpu speed. Not much of an overclock I grant you, but you won't get the high overclocks without unlocking the chip. Just try raising the fsb above 133 and see what happens. But keep the chip!! :-)

Rob is right. "DO NOT RETURN" your 1 Ghz "AXIA" CPU. I put the 1 GHz (200 fsb) "AXIA0110BPAW" into my machine last night. Without changing default volatge, the CPU goes 1.0 Ghz, 1.05 Ghz, 1.10 Ghz, 1.18 Ghz, 1.23 Ghz and the temperature stays a cool 27C at idle (42-43C at full load). I will go past 1.3 Ghz tonight. joerob, you have to unlock your CPU using defogger kit (look at the home page of this web site) to fully realize the awesome potential of your CPU. If you need more help about unlocking the multipiler let us know.

I will try the defroster kit and will let you know. Thanks for ideas.

Can anyone let me know what would be a good defroster kit and where to get one. Also some good tips on how to apply it. Ive done the pencil trick few times on my 850 t-bird but that wears after awhile. Thanks.

I unlocked the chip with a pencil just to see where i could get it. Its @ 10x@135 1350 stable. So I think I will for sure keep this chip. I will have to invest in the defroster kit cause I hate redoing the pencil every so often. Thanks for the input. Any ideas on a better hsf? let me know. Im just using a silver orb for now and its running @ 53C idle without the casemod fans. With the fans it 41C. I want it way lower though.
