I just got my new system components; abit kt7a-raid, 256mb crucial pc133, 850mhz tbird, fop32-I hsf, and articsilver II. Ok heres the deal I've got it overclocked to 995mhz with a gforce ddr in it and when I run 3dmark2001 I can see some problems and it locks up I've tried lowering the speed of the gforce with the coolbits reg and it runs even worse if I run the system at 850 everything looks fine.

The question is this, before I go for the unlock the multiplier trick how can I increase the cpu speed? Is there something in the bios I can mess with to make the system a little more stable? Is there something else I can do to the videocard? Everything else seems to run fine. I'm using det 7.58's, and in the mobo bios I've got it set to 100/33 + cpu plus of 17.

If you're still running at default vcore then raising that will help - but as you've got nearly a 150MHz oc out of it I expect you have. As long as the load temps stay below 50C you'll be fine using the max of 1.85V. If I understand, you're running the cpu on a bus of 117MHz, but the rest of the system is running a 100MHz fsb? In that case, the PCI components shouldn't be being overclocked, so the stability problems probably aren't due to the vid card. You could still try raising the VIO though (from 3.3V to 3.4 or 3.5V).

As well as voltage, temps could be the problem - what load temp are you running at at 995 as compared to 850? I'd have thought temps would be ok with the FOP and arctic silver, but you never know. Just remember though- to get the most out of the chip you will have to unlock it at some point, and I'd have thought you could get the gig out of it quite easily.

Yeah, I just unlocked it because I couldn't wait. The wierd thing is now I'm running 7.5x133=1000 and 3dmark looks perfect. So I wonder if the agp was running out of spec even though I had a +17 for the cpu and not the pci. My hope is to get to 1100mhz, and judging by what's happened so far I think I will have to raise the vcore to 1.80 or 1.85, do think that will be a problem as far as heat? By the way my via hardware monitor says the vcore is 1.8, when it should read the default of 1.75. Oh, I seem to be running at 29-35c at 1gig.

Those are nice cool temps, so they shouldn't be a problem when raising the voltage. I'd believe the via hardware monitor, so take the 1.8V as the actual voltage. Don't worry if it's different from what you've set it to, it sounds as though the actual voltage is 0.05V higher than the bios setting so instead of 1.85V your max voltage is now 1.9V (a Good Thing). Glad to hear you got the gig, with temps like that you ought to be able to keep going :-)

Rob, i was just wondering if you caould give me a link to a tnt overclocker prog-i got a TNT2 *meg(i know i know) and i have HS for the Ram and the GPU, i wanna OC her cause-when i run 3dm2k1 it says my accelerator does not support dx8 and i know that it does-i used to run 98se and dx8/3dm2k just fine now with 2000pro and 3dm2k1 i get all sorts of problems??

I don't think oc'ing the card will help solve those problems, they're probably due to 3dmark2001 being designed to use newer features not included on your card, like FSAA. But here's a couple of ocing utilities if you want them:
