View Full Version : AMD bruning continues
i use a golden orb cooler @ 5200 rpm and thermal paste but my mobo (A7V) shows a very high temp ! i'm worried i haven't clocked my athlon nor will i clock it for at least 1 year (at the topic I meant "burning")

OH MY Fing GOD
DONT USE A ORB OF ANY KIND ON A AMD CHIP MUCH LESS A GOLDEN ORB
IT CANT HANDEL A AMD CHIP AT ALL
get you a FOP32 or a FOP38 or a thermoengine
DONT RUN YOUR MACHINE ONE MORE SECOND with that ORB
ORB = AMD DEATH !!!!!!!!!!!!
Two problems there.
First, the Golden Orbs are not considered to be an acceptable hsf for even a default socket "A", much less an overclocked one.
The second problem is with the A7V motherboard monitor. I have read that it is not uncommon for them to read temps as much as 10C higher than actual. I have two ASUS boards, one A7V and an A7V133 and although the temps read on the high side, mid 50's, they both run stable with DURON 600's @ 1100MHz+

Problem#3 No one ever really knows what their die temperature is. At best a bios writer uses the known tolerances of a thermistor, its location in the socket, and uses an algorithm to compensate for compressive results. Worst case scenario..a blind dart shoot? Nah.
A linear equation that errs to the side of danger. I.E. Reports temps. low.

The golden orb is a socket 370 heat sink. You should get a good socket A model. :)

I have a silver orb on my duron 650 that runs at 900 and my max temp under full load is 48c, So I know the orb works. Maybe my case being big allows better coolimg, or maybe im just lucky
It may be "working", but how well? My 600 Duron at 900 holds 27C with my air cooled heatsink, running Prime95. It's relative to your expectations.
