Here is a good deal at CompUsa :

Edit :This is with rebates .

The local CompUSA here has the Built By ATI 9800 Pro for $299 I think.

The pro or the non-pro I think that $299 is the in-store price of the 9800 non-pro , which is in fact slower than my 9700 pro . ( unless overclocked ) .

Im pretty sure its the Pro, it was a special or some crap.

ugh, these rebates go to New Rochelle.. Just FYI, I bought my current CDRW from compusa, with a 30 dollar rebate, and it took about 4 months for it to show up - and by the time it comes, the 9800 Pro will be $299 out the door.

BUT $349 is one of the best prices around currently (compared to newegg).. If you get free shipping with it, its an alright deal.

I'm just sick of rebates basically..

My wife picked me up a refurb Sapphire 9800 Pro at newegg for $267 shipped with no sales tax. Newegg had several, and they continue to have more. Updates to their inventory are coming at various times of the day, but yesterday they had 81 different flavors of card from a $9 ati 8 meg POS card all the way to a 9800 pro 256 meg (around $335).

STILL this is a great B & M deal, and I agree that it plainly says 9800 PRO, not np. Still, I know nothing about the Xstacy brand's quality.

How's your refurb 9800 pro doing? I feel nervous about purchasing refurb cards

Ya, i bought a cpu, 2 mobos, and vid card all refurb and the only thing that didnt have any luck overclocking was the video card. Plus it got text corruption all the time. Now im hesitant of buying refurb video cards.

For me at least, I was sure that they had a 9800 Pro selling at CompUsa . What happened is that Onizuka said he saw ATI built 9800 Pros selling as in store items for $299 ( no internet rebate special ) . I then replied that he may have made a mistake since that is as far as I know the price of the non-pro in many retail outlets . Onizuka thinks that it may have been on a special , but I still have my doubts and feel that he saw either a refurb or a non-pro .

However the contention never was that the bargain I posted in this thread was a non-pro , just that there was some disagrement as to whether pros could be had for this same $$ at CompUsa without rebates .

Finally , I just thought I had to clear that up :)

Wow, your wife bought you a computer component. You are one lucky chap. My wife despises my computer and wishes it would just blow up. She is definetely a keeper.

Only problem is you have to pay for shipping and they are charging something like 30 dollars in tax.

Yeah, I was just about to buy that yesterday but it came out as $330 total (tax and shipping).

Newegg has a Tyan Tachyon 9800 Pro 128 MB for $340. Thats also a damn good price IMO.

Just last Friday I saw an MSI Geforce FX 5900 128 MB for $309 on newegg. That MUST have been a glitch cause I think its $412 now...

I then shudder to think what it would cost if tax and shipping was applied to their regular $340 price  . But seriously most sites will not have it as low as $330 and the ones that have it in that ballpark haven't yet added their shipping or tax price on .

The same thing happened to me when I got my 9700 pro , then the card was only a month old and the ATI version cost $449 on ATI's site ( with remote ) and approx $399 elsewhere . Gamestop had a 20% off 48 hr special and I snagged myself one ( $309 :) ) . But they have shipping prices that vary not only with weight and size but also with price . So by the time I was done my card still cost me $389 or so to reach me here in Barbados ( Caribbean ) ........... but that was still far better than other stores whose prices were $379 - $400 before shipping and tax .

I just got it and it went in without a hitch! It's pretty swanky, actually. I did just get the BARE CARD in a white box. The card had obviously been installed before (you could see the pin marks on the AGP contacts), however for almost $100 less than the regular price, I'm willing to put up with that. The OEM version comes with a driver CD, Soft DVD (came with my DVD drive), and a few cables & a DVI-->VGA adaptor that I already have from my Radeon 8500.

I ran the Elite Force II demo, and I can really see a difference. Of course I turned on trilinear filtering, 16x fsaa, and the whole jazz (I only run at 1024x768 at the moment--but I will be experimenting).

I got the ATI 9800 demos here. (http://mirror.ati.com/developer/demos/r9800.html) They are very impressive. It's wild to see the individual hairs on that monkey's back!

My wife is pretty great. Thanks for the advice, I will be hanging onto her.

So this deal is $400-$50=$350 if you buy in store, and $350-$50 MIR + $30 shipping = $330 if you buy on the internet. I'd say this is a "phantom deal." Still, it's a good deal--just not a "sa-mokin" deal. AND the new generation of video cards are SUPPOSED to be just around the corner (next month from ATI?).

Bottom line: The $267 bare card 9800 pro I got seems like the best deal around IMHO.

I thought Newegg factors tax into their products, and as of now, the Tyan Tachyon 9800 Pro 128 MB card has Free FedEx saver shipping. Total price still stays at $340.

Anyone read any reviews on the Tachyon 9800 Pro? I remember hearing that the Tachyon 9700 Pro was really good buy.

I don't think Newegg charges tax unless you live in the same state as their warehouses or HQ. I could be wrong/

As far as I know , no one is supposed to charge you tax unless you live in the same state .

Yup, so for most online retailers you are safe unless you live in the sunshine state. Then your screwed;)
