I read this review off of pcworld.com:

AMD offers two versions of the 1.3-GHz Athlon. The 1.33-GHz chip has a 266-MHz front side bus that works with systems that use 266-MHz DDR memory (PC2100). The straight 1.3-GHz processor has a 200-MHz front side bus that works with 200-MHz DDR (PC1600) memory or PC-133 SDRAM memory.

Does this mean that the 1.33/266 only worls with DDR memory? Or does it also accept PC133?

Could someone please explain this to me? I would also like to hear it from someone who has a 1.33/266 and PC133.

Thanx
Sean

Also does an Abit KT7a-r support the new T-Birds? 1.3 and .133?

The KT7A supports the new Tbirds but the maximum multiplier is 12.5.
The 1.33/266 works fine with PC133/150/166. Which one represents the better investment, I'd say look at the average price for each. The more expensive one probably represents the more powerful one. This may sound naive, but show me the hard data supporting whether more 1.33/200 or 1.33/266 run the fastest. IE not just one example. My gut feeling is whatever the 1.33/266 can do, the 1.33/200 can do also, but not vice versa. Just a suspicion, no hard evidence.

The only difference between these two chips is the multiplier they are set to run at. Since you will no doubt unlock the chip as soon as it arrives, it doesn't really matter what the multiplier defaults to. EXCEPT there have been reports of problems with high multiplier Tbirds when FSB overclocking. For this reason I'd suggest going with the 1.33 GHz processor since it costs the same amount as the 1.3 Ghz ones...

Or, if you want to be sly, spend a few weeks browsing Ebay and e-mailing the sellers for the CPU codes. If you can find a 1 GHz or 1.1 GHz AXIA you can get 1.33+ GHz speed for a good price.

I have the same rig you're talking about. 1.33/266 on a KT7A-Raid with one stick of 256m pc133 and 2 sticks of 128m pc100 ram. No probs yet, but I want to get a better PSU before I start to push this thing any higher than 1.35. I have a 300W and I want atleast 400, but for cheap, won't be able to do that for a while though.

Forget both of the above get an AXIA from us at www.chillblast.com (http://www.chillblast.com) for a lot less and take it up to the same if not higher level.

Go for the 266 if the price margin isn't big. I have a 266 and am satisfied with it.
And jus out of curriousity, did you check if your mobo supports up to 266???

It uses both. I have a 1.33 at 266fsb with pc 133 256mb and am using a abit kt7a-raid mobo and it works fine. I don't know why Pc World said that.

Yes it does, that is what I am using at the moment and it works fine.
And am going to try to overclock it with the Alpha pal 6035mfc to see before I use water cooling systems.

BY the way, they have 1.33 266 fsb with AXIA srting.
ANd there is no 1.3ghz. it is all the same 1.33 just they don't mention the last 3 since it semms to be an incomplete. See the AMD website.

That is correct Viper. The 1.3(3) is one and the same...just in 200 and 266 flavors.

What about the 1.13 or the 1.1 with AXIA tags?

I have heard that the ones running on the 133 fsb get up to 20% real world(games) performance increase. I have a duron 700 and an Iwill KK266. I ran the duron at 9.5 x 100..950mhz and at 7 x 136..952mhz. My fps in Q3 goes from 102 to 119 at the same settings when I go to the higher fsb.
BTW..I just ordered a 1.33 266 myself.

You're unlocking the chip, you can set the FSB to WHATEVER you want!

All 1.33/266 chips I've seen come unlocked.
