I'm looking to setup a computer with photo editing software and a good printer. So if there is anyone who knows anything about printers, which are the best for printing off photos? Don't worry about price, i want all your suggestions from $1 to $500..

Also, i do have Paintshop Pro 7 and Adobe Photoshop that i use all the time and love..what other programs are there that are excellant for photo manipulations?

Reason i ask is last i was home my parents came to their senses and finally decided to kick my sister out, gone, adios and for good. So i had to speak to them about what they were going to do with the extra room, and my mom mentioned she'd like to get back into photography. She used to take and develop good pictures, and had seen my work i did on Computer Enhancement Of Finger Print Analysis; but she was asking me if i could set up a computer with a scanner, printer, and photo software for her to use. Let me know what's best...

what is your budget

i do some light photo stuff and i find that dual monitors is very helpfull

nothing big i have a nvidia tnt agp as my main on a nice 19inch montior and a generic 8mb pci for a 15 inch monitor

i put all the tools on the 15inch and that leaves the 19 inch free for work

the second video card cost like 30 bucks so i think its a good deal if you have a extra montiro laying around

There's no real way to win with printers. Find something that fits your budget nicely because odds are it'll go south soon after the warrrantee runs out. Printers have a nasty way of limping along for a long time after their pristine newness is long gone. There's no way I know of to avoid that, even lasers will get all sorts of nasty artifacts if you don't constantly maintain them.

HP is probably the best in the market right now, they have good looks, rugged mechanicals, and decent cartridge prices.
More money tends to get faster printing and useless features rather than better quality. For best quality, use internet based printing companies, about the same price as home printing after you figure in photo paper (oh my) and ink.

The HP inkjets in the $300 to $500 range are sweet. My stepfather has a Photo1000 (it's even a little dated now, I think) that... well, totally rocks.

If you're going to do S.E.R.I.O.U.S. professional printing, you'll want a real 4 color or even 6 color print system with some speed to it. Otherwise the HP printers work great.

for the computer I wouldn't go as far as dual processors or hyperthreading unless she's a REAL power user using 30 layers or 500 MB files. A single XP 2400 or better or a P4 2.4 or better would be great for her. I would just make sure you had enough RAM, I would say more than 512 would be best if she'll be using .tiff files that take up mad space. The best printers right now are Dye sublimation printers, They have incredible picture quality but are kind of expensive to run. If you want inkjet get the HP 5550, 5650, photosmart 71, 73, or 7550. They all have the SAME print quality they just have different features. If she needs large format printing then the Epson 2200P is your best bet. Photoshop 7 is about as good as it gets but some people prefer paintshop pro.

she's computer illeterate..but she'll pick up since it's photos are what she likes to do..

as far as the computer goes, they already have one. 1.4 amd, 512mb (will have 1 gig +), gef 3, etc etc..that's not the info i'm looking for..

as far as those printers go, i'll check into them..maybe i can get the store to print me test photos on glossy paper..not just some crap regular photo on reg paper..after all, i'm spending a ton of money on them

btw, a little off topic, but i once walked into compusa and when browsing through the printers i stopped an employee. I asked him "can this printer print foreign currency?"..he looked at me extremely funny and walked off. My brother and i couldn't stop laughing for an hour

HP, Epson or Canon would be your best option. All provide good quality and have reasonable cartridge prices. But whatever you do, stay away from anything Lexmark (if you find a photo printer made by them), easily the worst printer I have ever used, insane cartridge prices, and breaks very easily.
