hate to bear the dead horse, but which card for $150

I know, I know... This question seems to be nagging everyone looking to buy/upgrade their video card. But I've posted several times and haven't gotten a concrete answer. Truthfully, this is probably the worst time to be buying, cuz there is such a huge gap in price/performance from GF4 Ti4200/Radeon 9500np and GF FX 5900 Ultra/Radeon 9800p.

Nonetheless, I have to get a new video card - no choice. My friend wants mine and I don't want to spend more than $130-$150 for a new video card. So, what do you buy?

I'm not a huge fan of OC a video card to its limits, cuz that would require more money for better cooling/ramsinks, and I'd be ****ed off if I burned the card out in several months or weeks! And successfully softmodding a 9500np seems to be far and few... Unlike some people, I don't have alot of money and I can't wait 4-6 weeks for an RMA and be without my computer.

(I've been waiting 6 weeks for friggin Gigabyte to RMA my mobo back) - unbelieveable! So I went and bought this ASUS...

PLEASE, someone, anyone, just tell me what to buy so I'll shut-up!

Personally I would try to find a 9500 Pro or a 9600 pro.

These guys are having some awesome deals, I saw some nice cards there for about 100. Just got a new board and power supply from them, the power supply was shipped same day delivery on monday, got it on wednesday, and the board, which is a soyo dragon kt333 ultra, got that for 100 plus shipping, it shipped the next day, arrived today. Very nice board, and power supply is good too. They were great to do business with, and the prices were awesome. Poke around there, I am certain they have something to fit you:)

The XFX GeForce FX 5600 256MB DDR , and it said it had tv out and things. Just a suggestion, though somebody else might know of a better deal??

please do not get any FX series geforce, the only geforce ever made that was worth anything are the TI series,,,,

for the $150 mark,
newegg has a sapphire Ati 9600 pro for $153,,,

or you can get a GF TI 4600 for $213 which comes with 650mhz memory :)

do not order from tiger direct plz. just look at their reseller ratings. if i was you i would watch the newegg refurbs for a 9500pro or maybe a ti4400 or ti4600. i have seen ti4800se for around 110 there . i think those are ti4400 with 8x agp or something.

I would say go with either 9500 np with 'L' shaped ram or 9600 pro.

if he gets a refurb one it wont be. they are around $135 refurbished, which with newegg is usually just a return because someone didnt want it anymore. also i would get a 9500np l shaped over a 9600pro since it will perform better overclocked than a 9600pro even if it doesnt soft mod

yes,,, me and my friends have had problems with tigerdirect.com ,,, O and don't even think about getting something from them with a mail-in-rebate,,, unless you don't mind getting it next year sometime,,,

Is the 9500np DirectX 9 compatible? I was thinking of Ti4800SE, which really won't be considered an upgrade (slightly if any), but more of a lateral movement... I'm sure all the 9500np cards from NewEgg are unsuccessful softmods, but if you say an moderate OC on a 9500np beats a 9600p, then maybe I'll go for it...

Oh yeah, my buddy is just lazy and doesn't want to look/shop himself... So he said he'd rather just take mine and I get a new one. Fine with me!

Also, GF FX 5600 needs to be "newer" ULTRA in order to be worthy, but thats going over $200

I know the 9500 Pro's are DX9.0 compatible. not sure about the 9500np

how about a TYAN G9600-M at newegg $160 wfree shipping I was looking at this one my self plenty of heat sink for a good overclock i think it comes with a three year warranty some body cheak for me please

Go for the 9500 Pro if you can find one still. All 9500 series cards and up are DX9 parts. If you can't find the 9500 Pro at the right price, go for the 9600 Pro.

yes ati names their cards after directx version, so 8000 cards are directx 8, and all 9000 cards are directx 9 , and when dirext x 10 cards come out, ati will probably use 10000 for their card names...

no only cards from 9500 and up are DX9 compliant... the 9000/9100/9200 are dx8 only.

The 5600 256mb is slower than your current card... omg no FX anything for 150 bucks... they are crap at that price range. 9600pro is where I would go man.

9600 Pro if you aren't going to overclock the 9600 Pro is about as good as you can get for money. Unless you find a 9500 Pro refurb at Newegg in your price range.
