View Full Version : hsf any ideas on which one to buy
Can someone post a link where to purchase a hsf over the net. I was looking at the thermosonic thermoengine, alphapal6030, or FOP38. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. As of right now I have a silver orb w/1gig266@10.0x140-1400 idle temp is 56C @1.75volt.

56C at idle is pretty darn warm. You are right to be lurking for a replacement. Nice overclock, especially with the chrome orb. Well done! :)

Terry;
At that temp, time is not on your side. Otherwise I would say to wait the 4 weeks or so anf get the Millenium Copper Heatsink. You really need to correct your current situation as soon as reasonably possible. There are a lot of good coolers in the $20-$30 range. I recommend you look at some of the shoot-outs and reviews. Get the one with the lowest resulting temperature for the money you intend to spend. It's that simple. For you setup, something with a .20-.30 c/w performance is best. When you read reviews, be careful of those which rely solely upon the thermistor, under the cpu reading. Tests which employ a thermal sensor in the heatsink or nudged up against the core, on top of the substrate are the most accurate. After a few reviews, you'll see the best performers keep coming up at the top of the heap. Get a 1st 2nd and 3rd choice and then shop around for the best price and whether they're in stock. But, get something soon!

The millenium looks as if it's gonna be the one to get - if you can't wait, take a look at the swiftech MC462, it's the next best thing. Only problem is, it might take 4 weeks to arrive (last I heard) - plus it's a bit pricey. If you want a better hsf now, and for a bit less than the MC462, then the Alpha PEP66 or Globalwin FOP38 ought to do fine.
