Services wont start

All of a sudden when I start windows, the services wont load anymore and after a few minutes I get the "driver or service couldnt start" message.
I checked event viewer and apparently 15 or so services failed to start.
windows mixer wont work, the videocard seems not to work also.
ICS and firewall don't work either.
What's wrong?
The last thing I did was to install a patch and to update my detonator drivers (detonator properties page also doesn't show up anymore)

edit: I did try re-installing detonator and it didn't help.
It seems I can restart some services manually

If you set the disabled Service(s) in question to "Automatic", then upon next reboot the Service doesn't automatically start with Windows?...or, if you set the Service(s) to "Manual", they don't start when needed by a program that depends on that particular Service to be enabled? Also, what sort of a patch did you install?
