Well I attempted it with some of those gel-pens and two 12" uv cathodes from xoxide. I colored in two of the PCI slots as well. I don't think im done really, I have to get some of the mobo circuit traced/etc.
I also did some wire-loom to clean up the hideous rats nest that I had.

I saw an article a month or so ago posted here that someone used them.
I picked these up at wal-mart.
Pentel Milky Gel-Roller..
only some of the colors in the pack were UV reactive, the white wasn't (oddly) and some of the lighter didn't seem to show up too well.
Also a pack of Crayola Gel-Pens

not really.
I mean it'll smudge off, I had to touch-up the memory sticks because when I pushed them in I used my fingers on the edge.
Also on the vid-card I had rubbed against it. It comes off real easy I assume it would dry soon enough? I'm not sure I've got it all closed back up and put away and don't plan on touching it anytime soon so it should be fine once it's in there.
I will probably do more of the motherboard and the rest of the PCI slots once I get some more time.

on the crayola I used the top two in that pack (red/orange) for the vid-card and ram.
They worked real well but I ended up going over the edges like 3 - 4 times.
All I can say is take it slow. I started going too fast and it seemed like I couldn't keep the pen on the edge of the card heh
The Pentel was pretty much the first four from the top-down in that pic. I thought the white would have been great but it didn't even show under the UV.

are the pens conductive at all? will they short-circuit my mobo if i do them on the wire traces?

I tested it at first on an old sound card I have in an old machine and it was able to boot up and worked fine. Not sure if they're conductive at all though, I suppose I could take a voltmeter to the ink to find out :)
