Okay, so what's the secret here?

You've all seen my posts. I'll try to keep this one as uncharacteristically short as possible.

I've now amassed my hardware, but can't seem to get it to do what I had expected.

I have the following:

1) KT7A Bios wz
1) 1.0G/266 CPU (AXIA-K Week 11)
1) 256M PC150CL2/166CL3
1) 400W PSU
1) AGP GF2MX-32
1) Linksys 100/10 PCI NIC
1) AWE64-ISA (I need this for progs I use)
Both Win ME & Win 98se (All updates)
Cooling to spare: Idle=22C / P95=36C

I thought getting the PC150CL2 stick would allow me to break through the 133 FSB barrier I was experiencing with my former 2x128M-PC133CL3 sticks. It doesn't.

Here's my observations:

Doesn't like multipliers above 10 regardless of vcore up to 1.85

10x133/33 runs solid @ 1.7/3.4 All memory settings max performance

10x136/34 runs a little shakey @ 1.75/3.5 both fast and slow bios memory/pci/agp settings.

Any multiplier 5x-12.5x will not work above 136/34 regardless of v-core, v-i/o, or reducing bios settings like previous.

North and Southbridges cool to the touch, as well as memory.

Overclocking the FSB is all relatively new for me. I have read all afternoon on different sites, understand the relationships, but what have I missed trying?

milkpowder need not reply unless he's had his daily Ritalin ;D

TIA

I know most of the AXIAs are supposed to be unlocked, but did you check your L1 bridges to make sure? Both AXIAs I had(and have) had no problem with multiplier changes, at least up to 11.5.

try 10x 140
cuz' i got finish ready a review with this chip and that was his settings.

p.s. i hate u for having that cpu......j/k!

I worded my multiplier issue wrong. It will do 10.5, 11, 11.5, 12, 12.5 at an FSB of 100. I have to bump the core voltage as I go upward in multiplier. I can post up to 12x124, but no multiplier works above 136 and 136 is unstable. I may put the trusty Duron in and see if it'll go above 133 reliably. If it does, then my particular Tbird CPU simply does not like going above 133. Not that I'm heartbroken that it runs 10x133 so effortlessly, but I spent good money on this PC150CL2/166CL3 memory stick. FWIW, regardless of multiplier, at FSB above 133, I don't even post. Monitor does not initialize even. Took out my AGP card and NIC and subbed an old Stealth 64 PCI. Same problem. Something in my system definitely refuses to accept FSB above 133 and I doubt its the memory.

I've checked out some other forums and it appears mine is not an isolated occurence. Almost identical problems and in a few cases, same week 10 AXIA cpu. bump

watch out for that NIC... if its a ln100tx, it wont be able to work with any AMD chips...... check paul's FAQ on the kt7/kt7a....

Other than that, it looks like you got stuck with one of the week 10 AXIA's... too bad for you :(
I would be interested in that memory, ill trade ya... :)

Are you sure its the proc, I have a kt7a-raid, TB 1000(AJFA) that I CANNOT run at 133fsb. It'll do 141 with noooooo problem, 133, all I get aer lock ups and registry errors among other BSOD's. I can run solid at 1155(105X11), but can't get into windows at 1150(100X11.5). LOLOL. It will run almost all the bus speeds,(within reason :) ), but 133, 134, 135 are a big no go. Even if I run it at 1000(133X7.5) I get nottin! It will post, then crash as soon as the slash screen for windows shows up, and this is regardless of the Vcore I have, or the VIO, it just won't do it. I did get it to run for a little while at 1133(133X8.5) but after about 2 days it got really nuts and I put it to 1128(141X8 )bios as well, maybe that has something to do with it.

Generally if you can't get your FSB up very far, it's a PCI/ISA/AGP problem. The PCI clock doesn't like going above 33MHz, and it's a rare individual who has gotten it above 40. PCI seems a little less sensative than AGP, so I've expected when you unplugged everything and put in a PCI video card, your problem would've been evident.

Try this: Set your FSB speed back down to 100 and start going up from there. There will obviously be no issues from RAM, and if PCI is not a problem, you'll get up to about 120MHz before you have to stop. Try it with just the AGP card also. If possible, borrow some one's video card and try with it.

If you've tried 3 or 4 different video cards, have no other cards plugged in, and you still can't get above say 105 MHz, then you've almost certainly got a lousy motherboard. You can probably swap it.

What the hell's wrong with week10 AXIAs?

Okay, it's not the CPU, memory, NIC, AWE64-ISA, or the GF2MX-AGP. It's the motherboard (KT7A). I have tried 3 different bios revisions and with "YH". Three different CPUs. Starting with everything at room temperature, cover off, it will boot at 7x140 and run prime95 rock solid for an hour. As soon as I reboot, Boom! won't post. It will not boot under any circumstance with WW or WZ at 7x140.
Let it sit for a few minutes, and you can do the same thing again. Put all the cards back in, put the cover back on and it booted at 7x140 just fine. Let it run P95 all night and was chugging along when I got up this morning. Stopped P95, ran Sandra benchmarks and 3D Mark 2001 just fine. Rebooted and again, Boom, won't post. The HS and dinky fan on the northbridge seems very loose (you can wiggle it). This evening, I will do some "Freeze Spray" troubleshooting. Bottom Line is, not to worry, its not the CPU.
