Hi.

I've been comming to Overclockers.com for quite a while, and I've just now checked out the messageboard.

I consider myself fairly good w/ computers, but I've mostly only dealt with Intel processors, not AMD.

I recently built a new computer w/ an AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz, 256mb SDRAM, 20gb 7200 RPM hd, ATI Radeon 64mb DDR w/ VIVO on an Asus A7V133.

After installing everything and firing it up, I installed Asus PC Probe, and my idle temp at the default Vcore (1.7) was about 57c. The heatsink/fan combo I was using was the Thermaltake Volcano II w/ stock fan. This temperature seemed warm to me. After checking the CPU Database, I tinkered with the Vcore and set it to 1.32, and it booted fine and ran stable. It also reduced my temperature by 3-4c, so I was happy with this, but I still have to change my hsf combo. I'm gunna get a Thermaltake SuperOrb. I recently unlocked the L1 bridges and I can overclock it to 1200 (12*100) at 1.5 Vcore, but I find that the temperature goes up to 61c under full CPU load (Prime 95 for 45 minutes) which I'm not really comfortable. Its stable, but its really hot. Is there any way anybody would suggest to reduce my temperature some more? Is this temperature safe? I know its under spec, but its still very high. Any suggestions?

That temp is quite high. I don't recommend the Super Orb as an overclocking heat sink. Look at the Alpha, Vantec and Globalwin heatsinks.

Yeah I agree with Terry, stay away from those orb's! A lot of people are having troubles with those coolers. It seems like there is a big chance that u will kill ur chip, when removing the Chrome Orb, so I think u should go for a FOP38 WBK or something like that.
