Ok, i've got an old PC (P3 333, 128mb RAM) that i wanna sell on, but it has no HDD. So i'm looking to get a 6.4, 8, or 10gb HDD for it, but i don't wanna pay much.

So how much sould i be looking? i din't really wanna spend over £15... Also i'm in the UK so any US sites are of no interest (shipping would be mre than the HDD!)

And also what you think i mught ask for this rig?

I think this is the right place, as i'm NOT selling or buying, just asking price advice :)

Thanks, ArBiTaL24.

Can't help you out w/ the HD but when selling it you might want to mention that the CPU is a P2 rather than a P3 :)

Why's that?

In your post you said it was a P3 333... no P3's are 333MHz, only P2's. The buyer might not like it if he finds out that the 333MHz is a P2 not a P3... even though it makes no difference, but just want you to make sure it's all right.

That's weird... it says P3 on bootup!

"PIII 333Mhz..blah, blah"
:(
i Can't even check out the config, cos it's a Compaq desktop style and there's nothing in the bios about it....weird...

I'll go boot it up and check, i could be wrong....

EDIT: i've booted it up, found a cpu menu. It's set at 333 which is 66x5, but i can set it to manual, or ANYWHERE between 200MHz and 600MHz bu changing the (x5) bit to x6, x6.5, etc. i CAN'T change the (66.) bit (presumably the FSB). So i don't know the actual speed or type of the processor. Do you think it's been changed?

I'm guessing it's about £5... :)

The problem is small HardDrives are too pricey, sometimes you can get lucky and find a cheap one. The best place to look is UK forum classifieds, and even there people want an arm and a leg for them because there heavy to post. You should be able to get a 10GB ish drive for about 15 delivered if you manage to find someone selling one.

EDIT: i just got it in the boot stage. here's the EXACT wording:

PENTIUM I I I - MMX CPU at 333MHZ

I just opened it up, it's a Slot1. 128mb RAM. As i said, 200MHZ-600MHz adjustable (see the EDIT on my second to last post)

Do you think maybe it's UNDERclocked

Any advice, ideas, thanks :)

I think P3's started at 450Mhz, look at what bus speed its set to as they are multi locked. Maybe its just a case of the wrong bus speed, another thing to do would be to take out the chip and examine it for any markings and google them.

Cool :)

I have uncovered the folliwing from the CPU:

500/512/100/2.0v S1
99490139-0021 MALAY
(blah, blah) SL35E

And on a sticker on the side:
pro-p3-500

So i'm guessing it's a P3 500? i was running at 333 before. It has adjustable speed options as stated above. If anyone wants the EXACT list of speed options, i'll do that.

The only thing is, in the BIOS i set it up (earlier) to run at 433. However, it only shows up as a 333 in the actual bootup screen (when it shows the RAM, etc). Why is this?

EDIT: i don't know if i've already said, but it's a Slot1, not a socket, processor.

Looks to me like its a P3 500 100FSb chip, what motherboard is it? it may not fully support the chip one thing to try wold be to go to the motherboard manufacturers web site and download the latest bios and flash it, it may support it then.
