I have tried the pencil trick...no luck, I bought trace tape...and STILL I cannot get the multiplier unlocked. Am I just a drooling ****** or is there something I'm missing?? I mean, it's possible that I just can't see well enough to get the trace tape on properly...but is it also possible that I couldn't see that? I mean, this is supposed to be fool proof...apparently I am just worse than a fool? Any input would be valued greatly.
It COULD be that you're connecting the wrong bridges....
Maybe you don't know how to draw? It's not as easy as some people make it sound. You have to have a good pencil.
Trace tape... Maybe it slipped?
Maybe you have a super-locked CPU?
Maybe you're not enabling multiplier changes in your BIOS?

The pencil trick is a pain in the [behind]... I almost had to resort to hunting a suitable (2H) pen. Then I had to some really "wonderful" time holding a magnifying glass (3.5x) against my eye. I only got the odd multipliers unlocked, meaning 5, 5.5, 7, 7.5 and so forth. Takes a lot of patience.
Why don't U try the rear window defrogger kit or the conductive pen, nost of the ppl here have been sucessful with one or the other. Also try to get a higher power magnifying glass who knows it might help.
I had a helluva time getting the pencil trick to work. I must have tried it 12 times before resorting to a magnifying glass and went to the local Walgreens and picked up a magnifying glass with a flashlight on it. VERY handy and did it right the first time. I had to re-do the lines every couple of weeks and finally got the defogger kit. First time, it worked perfectly and has been so for months. I could also overclock it more with the defogger kit vs. the pencil trick. You'd be surprised what a good magnifying glass can pick up. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I have used the tape, and actually made a few pieces of it because it was cost prohibitive to order online. You REALLY have to mash the tape on there, it took me alot of time and even more curses to get it working. I later removed it and decided to go with the defogger kit solution, it took 15 min and I was up and running. I haven't had a problem since, runs great and all the mults work. :) The pencil just keeps coming off and is the most unreliable of the buch, that's not to say it doesn't work, it does. You just have to keep redoing it usually. Good luck

Well to rule out the simple stuff, yes I put it on the right bridges, yes I set it to user defined in the BIOS, and there is no reason I'd have to use the defogger kit because the trace tape DOES work...I just can't get it to do as such. I think a big magnifying glass is what I need to get...there is probably just a little bit of bridge showing and I can't see it...those ******** are awfully small. So I'll get that and try it again and let you fellas know...I had no idea how to do the defogger thing, so I won't even consider it.
Cool man, good luck, I hope it works for ya. :)
I don't know about you, but I know I'm stupid (just ask my kids). I've used both the pencil and the defroster kit. It's not rocket science, just connect the dots.
If you use the defroster kit, make sure you get the right thing. There are two similar products made by the same companies. The one that you would want is for repairing the traces on the glass, it's a single part conductive paint, not two part epoxy. The one that you don't want is the epoxy that's used to repair the connection between the wire conductors and the traces on the glass.
If you do make a mistake, it's just a matter of cleaning it off with a solvent that disolves the paint. I've found that a magnifying glass and a bright light certainly helps my 44 year old eyes see those little bridges!
I used the windshield defogger repair kit. Not quite as easy as everyone made it sound. I tried a needle but
couldn't seem to get enough paint in the right place. So I tried a sharpend toothpick and got too much paint
every where. Then I tried useing a jewlers screwdriver with a 1/32" tip and this worked the best but I still
couldn't connect all the bridges without creating shorts. so after about six attempts I decided to simplify the
stuation. I connected the first bridge and when I was satisfied I let it dry for half an hour. Then I went back and
did the next bridge and let it dry. That way if (when) I screwed up and shorted out the bridges I could clean off
my mistake and still keep the good conections. In hindsight I think a pen might have been easier but autozone
was right down the road.
When I unlocked mine with the defogger kit I took a razor and cleaned in between the L1's, I made such a damn mess putting it on, I didn't want to take it off, so I just cut inbeween the L1's. Works great for two months now. :)
