I was wondering what programs are available to record gameplay with. I have fraps currently on my computer and it basically drains the living cr@p out of my fps. I got from 90 to like 10-20 and with a first person shooter that is horrible. Anything out there you guys have used? If so speak up. Thankful as always.

i'm marking this thread as subscribed. I've been wanting the same thing. I just heard of fraps and was gonna try it, but if it slows down by that much, then i'm second guessing myself.
the only thing is having tons of space for the file. i've done it with fraps before and didn't notice any slow downs, but you need TONS of space.
Two ways to capture what is being displayed on your monitor.
1. Internal.
This requires a program like FRAPS or SNAGIT etc.. the problem with this, is that if you are capturing something like gameplay, the hit on the ystem resources is disastorous. The best way to pull it off, is to record a demo of the gameplay (like /record in quake etc..), and then play it back with fraps turned on.
2. External.
Most of you have GF4's etc.. with TV-out. Go grab your MiniDV cam, connect it to the TVout, press record, and blast away. Then later on, using firewire get the video, encode it with anythign you like. Quality is superb, I have done tenebrae gameplay vids this way, and later burned it to DVD, works very very well.
If you do not have a DV cam, you can record using a VCR, but quality is a bit worse, plus you would need a capture card, or a vidocard with VIVO to get that video later on.
EDIT: Also the problem with internal capturing using programs like FRAPS, you also have to capture sound separetly.. later mix it in, etc.. quite messy in the end lol ;p
BTW, here are some samples:

(File : 9.4 Mb (9.3 Mb), duration 0:00:26, type AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality 78 %
Video : 8.74 Mb, 2816 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 720*480 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5
Audio : 304 Kb, 96 Kbps, 32000 Hz, 2 chan., 0x55 = MPEG Layer-
Here is a screen cap of original DV footage:

we used to do this with broodwar before replays came out if we wanted to show people how fast we were(how fast you click), etc . i think we used a program called hypercam ive tried using it recently and cant figure out how. anyways, the videos came out like 500 megs and used divx to compress to about 50
