I have overclocked intels from 486/dx2-66's to 80, Pentium 166's to 180, Pentium 3 450 to 600, and a Celeron II 700 to 966. I can overclock just fine, just wondering if i should get a duron 600 or a 1 gig tbird AXIA from newegg.com.

I want to hitt blazing fast speeds like 1.5 gig. I know that the 600 won't hitt 1.5 but may hitt 1.1 but the 1 gig will be alot faster. I like to play alot of games, and also like to have bragging rights. hehe.

What motherboard would o/c the tbird the best? I was thinking Epox 8kta3 (cheapest) I am on a tight budget.

If you are really on a tight buget. I wouldn't skimp on the motherboard. I would get a quality motherboard and a duron. It is alot easier to upgrade the processor than the motherboard. I think newegg.com sells the Iwill kk266 for around $125 with free shipping.

I agree on the Iwill. Its a solid board. If you can get one of the unlocked AXIA TBirds, go for it. I got a 1.2GHz266, and without any tweaking was able to get it to post at 1500. This coming week I'm going to get serious about seeing what it can do.

Can you give me some specific details about the kk266?

Thanx

The KK266 is known for being able to push the FSB higher than most other socket A boards. I have heard of people reaching 170 MHz FSB with one (340 MHz DDR!! wow) It is a rather expensive board though. I would concur with above and probably get a nicer mobo with a less expensive processor. If you discover you can't afford an Iwill, go for an Abit KT7A or an MSI K7T Turbo. Both are nicer boards than the Epox in my opinion.

If you're set on a T-Bird already, the 1 GHz AXIA is where it's at, it's the bird I'd be buying if I was in the market for one right now. Either a 1 GHz AXIA or a 1 GHz AVIA.

What about the 1.33ghz Tbird?

What can i expect from each chip? (air cooled)

The KK266 is a fine board indeed and does go higher on FSB than most others - however it is a known fact that like the ASUS A7V133 it's far too quirky

The Abit and EPox boards are known moreover for their ease of setup and succesful change of multiplier.

One must also remember that a FSB of 170Mhz requires memory of some incredible ilk. Memory that will cost as much as the motherboard itself, and only run at CAS3 at this speed. Memory that will need cooling.

This is not child's play.

I run 145Mhz generally, and can push 150Mhz with Crucial CAS2 at CAS2, but that requires a strategic burn in at a sensible amount of volts.

Voltage in the wrong hands can kill memory (as well as CPU's of course)

A 1 GHz AXIA IS a 1.33 GHz, just a lot cheaper ;-) Seriously, 1.33 GHz chips are AXIAs also, so they are identical. I don't think it makes sense to go the DDR route yet. Go with a KT133a motherboard or, if you really have to go DDR go with the Via KT266 motherboard that MSI has (only one on the market so far).

It just all depends on how AMD "bin" the chips

I just bought a T-Bird 1333/266 chip yesterday. It was a boxed chip so it came with a 3 year warranty. I have a Abit KT7A-Raid board. I have it set at 133X11.5 and is running at 1530 right now it will go higher I had it at 1564 but turned it back. Thought I would let it run a few days then go higher. Hope this helps you to decide. OH on pricewatch a site in Dallas has a 133/266 for $210
