ok I just got this coolermaster DP5-7JD1B-0L HSF ( http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/silent/dp5-7jd1b-0l.html ) but when I went to install it, the fan on the heatsink poped off. I went and pushed it back on top the heatsink and it seems to be staying but because the mobo im using this hsf on doesnt have the autoshutdown in overheat feature (board from right b4 that rule was implimented on mobos) I want to make sure that this is ok or was there another way I was supose to reattach the fan? Thanks!

LOL! yea that really doesnt sound like a bad idea! haha XD.. if no other suggestions come up im sooo doing that! haha

I'd just pick up some 27mm screws from the hardware store... That'd keep that fan in place.

Clip It On

That heatsink looks just like my stock AMD heatsink (though with a bigger fan). The fan is screwed onto a plastic bracket, which clips underneath the ridges on the outer fins. Look at the edges of the fan-bracket assembly parallel to the ridges on the bracket's underside. There are four hook-like clips. Make sure those are all under the ridge on the outer fins. If so, you're good to go. If not, it just takes a flat object (screwdriver, scissors, etc.) to lever the fin outward while you push the bracket back in.

EDIT:
I've posted some pictures of my heatsink, in various stages of disassembly. http://mattsmac.ath.cx/heatsink/

how we forsake duct tape... use the right tool for the job, err, any job :)

I'll leave it to you to test its thermal interface properties :)
