Im gonna try to o/c an athlon xp 2500 to a 3000 or 3200, which of those fans would do the cooling job well enough?

thanks for any help.

i know about the sk-7 and stuff, but..

ah screw it. How would the sk7 perform with this fan attached to it?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?description=11-999-051

someone who commented on that fan said this..

"These fans are awesome for keeping the CASE cool... Looks good in a window case (Chieftech Dragon) too... But, they are NO GOOD for cooling CPUs faster that 900MHz. (as some heatsink manufacturers want you to believe.) Other than that, they are quiet enough, put out enough light that those internal case lights won't be needed, and keep the inside of the case below 30deg C. "

right or wrong?

I don't know exactly but 29CFM is not versus any pressure drop, like that created by a heatsink. Slap it on there and the back pressure would make the CFM drop a bit, hurting performance. One with a little more speed and watts should do fine.

how would i be able to keep that fan at around 4000 rpm without buying a manual controller for it?

what about the YS tech fan?

it pushes almost the same amount of air as the smart fan does and it has manual control.

oops no - the SFII does, but the SFII with no coolmod is $12. If your budget can stretch that far, get it. I have one and it rocks :D

The link is in my first post

it seems the SF1 comes with a manual controller though by what some customers on newegg say...

"I put this on top of my Thermalright SK-7. Using the thermal probe I can have the fan adjust to the heat of the CPU.

I also have one installed using the dial-an-rpm and that works good if you don't want much noise becaus you can set the RPMs to like 3500 or 4000 and it's not very loud. Cranked all the way up it does 5500 RPMs and it sounds like a hair dryer"

Yes I have found that with my SFII the follwing noise levels apply:

1800-2400RPM - dead silent
2500-3000RPM slight hum
3500-4000 tolerable swoosh
4500-5000 a tornado would be hard to hear over it

"I put this on top of my Thermalright SK-7. Using the thermal probe I can have the fan adjust to the heat of the CPU

This is the little thermistor that adjusts the speed of the fan. The guy probably used something like a rheobus to control the temperature manually but I don't think the SFI comes with one. SFII does though.

hmm....alrighty then. sfII it is.

still though, i at least would have liked to know what was the best HSF i listed on my first post.

any help?

one of the reviews says this about the speeze.

"Never buy on hype. Check the specs. You'll see when you click on the product link that the heatsink's rated thermal resistance is 0.508c/w, which is no better than heatsinks that come with the retail processors. I regret buying this with an oem cpu. On the positive side, the fan blows quite a bit of air at near 38cfm and is really quiet."

everyone else seems to have liked it though. *shrugs*

Take a look at the Vantec Aeroflow. It does a good job and runs fairly quiet. I have one on a XP2500 running at 2.31 (46 centigrade under load) and another on a 2.6C running at 3.26 and 42 centigrade (had it higher but chickened out).

I even bought several of the TMD fans and replace case fans with them, they work great.
