No matter what I do, I cannot get my Duron 700 to post past 850, and even then it locks up. 800 is the only stable speed I can get. From what I read, all Durons should at the least get up to 900. My question is in regards to the pencil trick. I was wondering, if it is not done correctly will it limit you in your multipler speeds or will it just not work at all? Heat is not an issue and my RAM is Crucial PC 133 CAS 2. My MB is a MSI K7T pro 2 a.Any info would be most helpful.

It will not work for sure if they are not all individual. Try erasing them then sharpen the hell out of the pencil and try again

I would state that with pencils nothing is guaranteed.
However it would be safe to assume that if a pencil mod will allow you to change multiplier at one speed, it should implement change to another.
Have other people had problems specifically with this particular MSI board. I know that they sure are quirky as hell.
This brings in the final possibilities :-
Cooling - are you using sufficient cooling ?
Thermal interface - is this great enough to provide a sufficient control for the dissipation of heat.
Voltage - are you feeding that duron enough to make the gates open and close enough at the desired frequency?
Then of course is the question :-
Have you just found the end of the road for your little fellow ?
Remember that just because 1 guy hits 1015Mhz with his chip, it doesn't mean that you will get anywhere near it aswell. CPU's are all different creatures - they try to replicate each one the same, but cannot and hence such practices as binning come about.
Hello I'm not new to the site but I'm new to this board so I don't know anyone yet.
It may seem an evidence but (I don't know your knowledge about Oclocking) have you tried increasing the voltage? I have a Duron 700 and I reached same speed as you (800) with default voltages. To get to 850 or 900 I had to higher it from 1.725V-1.8V (for 900Mhz) If I remember right.
Concerning the pencil trick, It was not easy to get an efficient connection for me so check yours if voltage didn't improve anything.
Greetings
If you did use a pencil to unlock your chip and used an eracer. You need to use alcohol to remove all traces of lead on the chip before you try it again. You could stand a chance of shorting it out if you don't. I would sugest to get a defoger kit or a conductive pen to unlock it.
yeah, I tried upping the voltage but no such luck. I think I might be doomed at 800. No worries though since AMD procs are so cheap I may pick up a T-Bird soon. Thanks for all the info!!
