View Full Version : most accurate software for checking psu volt readings
I'm using hardware monitor, and I think its a joke. Please help
I would say the bios would give the most acurate. All programs use the same sensors, so your likely to find little variation. Unless the program is not configured correctly.
Yeah, the programs just read what the chips on the motherboard are reporting. It's probably as acurrate as temperature readings...:D
The reason those readings are so different from say, taking a reading at the molex connector witha power meter is power losses due the ATX connector, and running through hundreds of components on the motherboard. They will always be different when read in the two different places.
Have a great one!

If you want accurate, you'll have to get a quality Multimeter.

Not really just test it under load

DMM on a 4pin molex while under load....
Best numbers yet....then just look at that Delta compared to ...say...MBM5.. and remember the numbers

i tested my PSU under load. all three voltages were measured from the
atx connector with a voltmeter. i also took readings from the CPU (four pin connector).
software is just too unreliable to make an accurate reading.

notice how the 12v lines have different readings from one another.
changed image location.

I didn't trust my BIOS nor any software voltagereading program.
Or I have a vcore of 1.70 (instead of 1.76), or my 5v line is 4.6 volt depending on program or config within program.
Voltage-jumps are pretty high also, up to more than 10% (idle).
3.3line 2 volt for a second or two? No problem :P
And running at a fsb of 100 or 138; no difference, except within the BIOS::5v-line (4.87 vs 4.79).
My system is just rock-stable anyway, so I don't bother.
With my old PSU, some cheap 300w unknown brand, my 5 volt line was sometimes around 4.5 volt under load, but still running
After upgrading to a new PSU, the voltages went a bit up, but no big difference; go figure (Enermax 433w).
So, just for a check, I looked with a expensive AMM at the voltages on one of the molex'.
5volt-line: 5.01 volt, with a small drop to 4.99 sometimes underload.
12volt-line: +- 12.05 either idle or fulload.
I'm clueless.......
