I decided to mod my mouse wheel on my MX500 and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a semiclear plastic ring that is 1"

I'm planning to make my mousewheel lightup with a LED.

maybe a tire from a leggo set or model car set would be good...but you would have to find a clear one...i'd try any hobbyshop

get a square of acrylic, and sand it into a circle.

well, i would like it to be soft, and if I could find one that was kind of like a clear elastic rubber band, it would work great

that's actually a good idea, being soft. I'l keep my eye out for such a thing

I'll keep my eye out as well, sounds like an interesting mod, although I'm sure I've seen it somewhere before. gonna see if I can track down the link to it, and see what he used for the wheel.

doesn't microsoft have a wheel mouse that has that already? if its not too expensive, maybe just get that mouse and switch out the wheels?

EDIT: http://metku.net/firewheel/index_eng.html found that, which is the only thing i have seen doing that, but its make out of plexi... not exacly soft.

Try taking the wheel out of the mouse, taking the rubber part that your finger touches off of it, and coating the wheel in clear silicone to the same thickness as the original wheel. You could chuck the wheel into a drill, spin it slowly, and hold something against the silicone to get the desired shape/size.

ooo nice idea! i haven't gone out to get any plexiglass yet so i might consider trying the silicone

How do i take the rubber off the wheel? when i tried to take it off, one side was free and the other side seemed like it was glued? how could i take this off without damaging the rubber?

Edit: never mind. I eventually got it off without damaging it. It just had a lip inside the wheel so all u have to do is pull it out horizontally

I just put the silicone on now and i'm gonna wait a whole day for it to cure. Luckily i have the mx500 and can use the scroll buttons :D
its such a mess... o well i hope it comes out good

Edit again: I didn't think it would come out good, so i'm just gonna wait on the plexiglass
