I just got a Radeon 9500 np today. It is a refurbished and came barebone. It is red with the L shaped memory. I didn't get a power adapter. It appears to be a standard floppy connection. I made an adapter with a molex connector on one end and a floppy plug on the other. Could someone confirm if this is the correct hookup?

I finally found a good picture if the adapter. It was just as I thought, just a standard floppy drive plug. I'm up and running now. I going to try the softmod later.

It's just a floppy connector. Your PSU should have some extra's. If it doesn't, all the adapter did was add one more outlet by allowing you to plug in one of your power leads, and it gave that lead and ther floppy connection in return.
It's the same voltage as any other HDD, CD/ROM, or floppy drive

Thanks for the reply. I had a floppy plug off an old powersupply so I just added a molex on the end and hooked to a regular molex.

i dont see why how you can softmod a 9500np to a 9700pro.
the 9700 has 8 rendering pipelines and the 9500np only has 4, it would make more sense to make a 9500p to a 9700p.

The 9500np IS a 9700 but with half the pipes and half the memory bandwidth disabled. The softmod just re-enables it. A 9500pro can not be modded as it already has the 8 pipes and has the "I" shaped ram so stays at 128bit.

Oh, so it was a software adjustment. Alrighty.
but that goes to say, can the 9500 pro be overclocked to 9700 pro levels?

Maybe. Most 9500pro's have the 3.3ns ram so they can only get up to about 300mhz. If you have the 3.0ns, there is a chance you could get it up to 9700pro levels. The core however is no problem, it will go lots higher with stock cooling. I had my card at 290mem/351core but now its at 290/290 as im waiting for a new fan to replace my dead one.
And YES (for those of you who reply to this part) its fine overclocked like this and NO its its not any hotter than it was when the fan was working as i have an 80mm fan pointed towards it.
