I was wondering if having your vcore set too high cause your cpu to be unstable.

I have a barton 2500 that wont clock to 2.0 stabily. I'm disappointed, and have tried numerous combos. The best fsb I could get was 203, but the multi was only 8.0, and my benchmarks were LOWER than stock. If I leave the FSB stock and raise the multi, I get nothing.

Vcore is usually about 1.7. Maybe I need a better power supply? I use ThermalRight slk800 cooling.

Any suggestions? Also want to know about the Vcore being too high! Thanks

Shane

That's a good question. I always thought you're not supposed to go higher than 1.8x V for permanent overclocks but people go 2.x and still say: "So what, instead of 7 years my CPU will last 4 years and it will be time to upgrade by then anyway."

I don't know... I still play arcade versions of Donkey Kong and Pacman on my 386 from mid 1990's.

Another Q - I set my vcore to 1.8 and on CPU-Z it shows only 1.74. What's that all about?

It CAN..if it makes the CPU so hot, and you cant cool down the chip because of the voltage, then its unstable due to it being to HOT!!

BIOS and software V may not correspond.
When we talk V, we usually mean BIOS.

I see... thanks for your responses! I wonder if 51 C is too hot?
