View Full Version : Barton 2500+ showing as Mobile???

I tried to blow the bridges on my 2500+ using the 9v trick. Well it didn't work and my system would not boot. So I reconected the bridges using silve conductive paint. Now CPU ID and Sandra report the CPU as a Mobile XP processor.

The system seems to be running ok and I can overclock it to 170x12.5. I tried re-flashing the BIOS and Clearing the CMOS, but it still reads mobile.

Any ideas?

I have a Asus A7V333 v1.01 (BIOS 1016)

Sounds like you messed up. I didn't know you had to unlock the bridges on the bartons. But I think it has something to do with the mobo. Have you tryed anyother testing utillity? Like wcpuid

yeah...um...you shouldn't have to unlock the bridged on the barton...now a days, i think the nForce2 chipsets unlock it automatically but i'm not sure on anything here except for the fact that you didn't have to unlock the bridges....you made a big boo boo

I have an Asus A7v333. It does not unlock the higher multipliers. I have multi's 5x to 12.5x, but need 13x & up.

you need to work on the FSB for more bandwidth.

my 2500+ running with a Prommie is clocking with an x that is below 13.

i tried the 9 volt trick before, but never could get the x's above 12.5 no matter what.

with the older boards, if you do the vid pin trick, then you will have some of the lower x's remapped to higher x's, at least i found this to be true with the 8k3a+ series from Epox.

worked kinda on a +8 factor, 7.5 x = 15, for example.

anyway, at least the processor still works.

i finally gave in and got an Nforce2 board, the way to go right now, for sure.

your #$%ked up your L5 bridges. If you look at this site (http://fab51.fc2web.com/pc/barton/athlon-e23.html#L5) it says that the 3rd L5 from the left is mobile (powernow) enable (next to the MP one), enable powernow, you could have closed it and the processor becomes a mobile.

bldegle2 is right.

You shouldn't try any higher multiplier, instead you should raise the FSB and even lower the multiplier.

For example, 220FSB x 10 = 2200MHZ. (It will beat 100FSB x 22 = 2200MHZ any time, again it is only one example)
The way you overclocking by raising multipliers only give you pure cpu power. If overclocking by raising FSB you will get not only more cpu power but also more bandwidth.

You should lower the multipliers in order to raise the FSB easier.

Btw, a part of the example "220FSB x 10 = 2200MHZ" can be done on Barton 2500+. Try it.

Unfortunately my board &/or memory tops out around 174. That's why I was trying for the higher multi's.

dial in the x you want, hard wire the ziff, that way at boot it won't be reading the higher multi, so it should boot to a higher FSB.

If it doesn't, easy to remove wires, no messing with CPU.

My guess is you need an NForce 2 board, may I suggest the NF7-S REV 2 or now 2.1, I think.

Then the higer FSB's will come through for sure.
