I'm looking to build a PC strictly for gaming and TV functions (tivo like). I'm hoping to connect the computer ONLY to my tv. Is this possible or do I need a monitor?

I plan on using my Mac for all other computing functions, and thats why I don't want to have the PC at my desk.

It is possible, but games and text will look terrible. Normal TVs run at less than 640x480 equivalent resolution. If you want any kind of definition, you need to use a monitor.

when you say terrible, what do you mean.

The PS2 and the Xbox look really good on a TV. Are you saying that PC games connected to a TV would look worse?

Simply put...yes. The games on the Xbox and PS2 are designed to run at that resolution and look good. Battlefield 1942 for example was not. Have you ever run your current games at 640x480 resolution before? it's not pretty but can be done. My laptop will ouput 800x600 but it's still not real great looking.

OK, I get it. I guess I'll just have to get a second monitor. One for my Mac and one for the PC.
