Hey guys. Do you guys know of any tutorials in how to install a copper shim? I just got a Axia chip, and I want to install a copper shim with it. Any advice?

Thanks.

What are you using the shim for?

What are shimms used for? For protecting the core!

Installing is extremely easy:

1. Install CPU.
2. Put the shimm on the CPU.
3. See that the shimm DOES NOT touch the CPU core. It also has to be EXACTLY the same height as the core.
4. Apply thermal compund on the core.
5. Install heatsink.

That should do it. But, as usual, I'm not taking any responsibility, if it doesn't work, as I didn't do the installation.

I'm sure he'd like to know if you keep the little rubber feet on. YES!! those things should be on at all times, unless you us a epoxy puddy instead.

wouldn't you want to put on thermal paste BEFORE installing the core to the mobo? Seems a bit easier to work with a small chip than a huge one.

Thanks for the replies guys. What I was wondering is , do I have to apply thermo paste to both sides of the shim. I mean the side facing the cpu and the side facing the HS? or do I need just a little (like in the corners) to hold the shim while I'm installing the HS?

Thanks.

Cheers.
