first of all, i know this isn't the place for this, but i need to vent a little.

i work at a company that sells computer hardware and everything else that deals with computers. a customer bought all the parts required to build a system, which included a p4 2.8 800fsb. all parts were factory sealed from the manufacturer when we sold it to him, including the cpu.

he comes back a couple days later with the cpu. he tells us that he received a defected item. i looked at the bottom of the hsf and saw that the compound had rubbed off to the back of the cpu. some pins were SEVERLY bent in one of the corners of the cpu; the pin in the far corner was totally broken off. he causes a HUGE scene about this. yelling at the top of his lungs. obviously, he had inserted the cpu without pulling up the lever for the cpu and also the wrong way. and while the cpu was resting on top of the socket, he placed the hsf on top and snapped it on. then he realized that he placed the cpu the wrong way and decided to act as if we sold him a defected cpu. the cpu was FACTORY SEALED. i can't stress that enough. basically, he was blaming us for selling him a USED CPU. and not only was it "used", but it was also physically damaged.

conclusion:
we could not take it back because intel will not replace it with a new one because it was physically damaged. true, intel has 3 years warranty, but not on physically damaged items such as this cpu. he just took the cpu and hsf and the box it came with and walked out cursing at us.

at the end, we all (the employees) had a good laugh. we felt terribly sorry for that guy, but it was kind of funny at the same time.

the moral of this story is......

make sure you know what you're doing when dealing with computers.......

and ofcourse everything else

:p

thanks for letting me vent

p.s. word for word...... "i don't know! i opened it out of the package and as soon as i was about to install it, i noticed the pins were all f*cked up! you f*cking sold me a used cpu!"

p.p.s. the cpu (2.4 800) is $339 from our store

i work in a computer store also. and to see the morons that come in and try to put the stuff together theirselves, and in the next couple of days, they end up back here, for use to fix their mistakes, and i have seen some dusies. that guy deserved what ever he got, because if he didnt know, he should of asked, and definately should not have tried to blame you. LOL:D

I bet that sounded like an unbeatable master plan to him on the way back to your store - you would think if this was your first build (I guess this was his as thats some mistake to make) you would hvae someone there who knows what they are doing or some very comphrensive well detailed guide on stand by

i dunno but, i felt really really really really bad for him.

he bought a nice setup too.

ie:

ati 9800 pro
asus p4c800-d
2x 512 pc3200 (generic)
sony dvd + - R
sony dvd-rom

$2,000 worth of stuff.

we don't take back open items. once you open it, you have to deal with the manufacturer. and i dont think they'll refund your money. well anyways, the point here is that he put everything else together, out of the box, and the cpu was the last thing left.

poor, poor, poor guy.:(

Well. . . . IF he bought all the parts for a new system then he SHOULD have read the little part in the motherboard manual, yanno the part that TELLS you just how to 'carefully' lift the socket lever and 'carefully' plug in the CPU(being sure to orient the chip to match the pin allignment). Perhaps I'm too logical??

:D

Just a lil curiousity. . . .(While never having done this) Just how the hell did he JAM that CPU in place? (LOL) How barbaric. . .

he probably thought that by "playing stupid," we could've exchanged it for him.

i don't think so.

i would kick the sh*t out of myself if i were him.

we're not talking about $20. we are talking about $339 going down the drain.

OUCH!:(

again....

poor, poor guy

he probably inserted the cpu pins in partially (because he didn't lift the little lever) and just assumed that if he puts the hsf on, it'll automatically "lock" into place. lol

and then when he locked up the hsf.......SQUISH!!!!

OUCH . . . and at 339 dollars for a chip that guy boogered up REAL bad. feel bad for him. . .Im almost willing to bet he has a 'buddy' that helped him with that mess. Did you offer to sell him a new chip ? (chuckle) . . only 339 dollars!!!

i know you're just kidding, but here's a honest answer:

i didn't ask if he wanted to buy another chip. i was afraid that if i did, he would've chucked the hsf at me for being a little smart ass. and that would really hurt. imagine that.....ouch!

EDIT:

wahoo. just noticed that i now have 2 stars. i have evolved!

interesting story. i would ask him to repeat the steps he took installing it, then laugh when he installs his cpu and pour a glass of water on his pants and say he had an accident

Yeah dishonest people like that make me sick. Unfortunately in a forum like this u'll find lots that would probly do the same. GOOD FOR U MAN. I'm glad u didn't replace his cpu. Dumb@$$ deserved it.
