OK i just started to learn overclocking but here is my dilema.

I have a athlon 2500+ w/ 1GB PC2700 RAM, an FX5200 Video Card running on a a7n8x mobo.

I have it set at 169fsb X12.5 multipler, where i can run prime 95 for 12hours with no problem and my cpu heat never goes over 41C.

When ever i try to increade the FSB to 170 or higher i get nothing, the system dosen't even load BIOS even if a lower the mulipler. and i've increased the vlotage up to 1.75

My only thought is it is my power supply, which frankly, sucks
Or that i am at an inherent flaw with the chip.

Does any one have any suggestions that may help. Thanks.

what's yout PSU ?

what about if you lower the multiplier and raise the FSB - does it do the same thing? or vice versa, lower the FSB and raise the multiplier to try and determine whether your CPU is causing this or your memory or even your board.

i am running a 300watt compaq PSU, i will now pause so you can laugh....

done....
OK.. :D
Is it possible that the PSU is the problem?

No good on changing the muliplier, no matter what it is 6.0, 11.0 or 12.5 i get nothing at a 170 FSB.

well that PSU does seem a tad on the low side to start raising voltages here and there - but just incase, try raising your mem voltage or your NB voltage a touch - see if that helps some.

If not, I would consider buying a PSU with a larger output. :santa2:

I think we need a lot more info such as MOBO. Memeory manufacturer. Temps and such.

Mobo is an Asus a7n8x, memory is PNY brand ( 2X256 and 1X512)
Boot temp is 38C,12 hours or prime95 temp is 41C
Current settings 169fsbX12.5(2.11Gz), 1.65v
PNY brand GeForce FX5200 128ram.

Hope that helps, does any one know of 2500+'s that can't get the FSB over 170?

Thanks all.

pny memory probably doesn't go too far. Try relaxing your memory timings. (higer CAS latency or bigger latency numbers.)

It's so obviously the memory.
PC2100 = 133 FSB
PC2700 = 166 FSB

For your reference, my PC2100 does 152 FSB which is not considered a bad OC for Free After Rebate RAM....

Do the math.

P.S. You know you can do higher FSB with Memory Frequency set to Auto instead of 100% but then what's the point...
