I am trying to intall ms office 2000 on a machine that has xp pro on it, and enytime it get to a certain point it says it can't be intalled because there is some protected file.... what can i do?

What is the exact message you are seeing? Copy and paste the thing (ctrl + c) or take a screenshot (prntscrn) so we can offer you useful advice.

Are you installing it under an Administrator Login or some other type of restricted user. You may not have permission to install it because it modifys a user level protected file.

i think i know what you're talking about... if it's something like a "windows file protection" error, then try this:

goto "Start"
then "Run"
in the "Run" box, type "msconfig"
click "OK"
on the "General" tab, select "Selective Startup"
clear all the checkboxes
click on the "Services" tab
select "Windows Installer"
click "OK"
restart your computer
try reinstalling office now...

hope this helps. good luck.

i couldn't ignore it, but i just restarted the comp and it worked, sorry for jumping the gun, but thats still weird.
