I recently contacted Compaq tech support for info on my motherboard and I couldn't get an official answer. I talked to four "specialists" on their chat support and each one gave me different info. I asked them what the maximum AMD Athlon XP cpu was that my motherboard could handle. One guy told me that the max was the AMD Athlon XP 2000+, another guy said the 2200+ and another guy said any AMD athlon cpu would work. One ***** even told me that my Presario 6015CA Series motherboard was not capable of upgrading from the current AMD Athlon XP 1800+ cpu. WTF! What kind of a company sells computers that can't be upgraded! I figured most people on this forum know more about computers then these Compaq retards, so if anyone can help me identify my mobo and tell me what cpus it can handle I'd really appreciate it.

Here's my specs using CPU-Z:

I know it says Compaq as the manufacturer of my board, but since when did Compaq make motherboards?

being an Nforce rev2, I would think that it could handle a 2000 or better easily. Maybe not any of the 333FSB cpus though (or 400FSB of course).

Look for an updated BIOS for your particular board. Sometimes in the 'changes' text, it will tell you of an update to recognize certain models of cpu.

also look for that particular motherboard model (Compaq 07D0h or just 07D0h by itself, google it, sometimes you have to dig and dig and dig and dig to find it, even going so far as to contact the actual BIOS maker and try getting an answer from them).

Compaq/HP are notorious for the amount of same-yet-different models they put out. I've been through the nightmare many a time, but 99% of the time I eventually find it (or by the time i nearly find it the whole comp is obsolete hehe).

It will probably take a lot of work, or you could just buy the cpu you wanted (again, i'd stay on a 133FSB as the BIOS might not recognize the new cpu codes). Work first and then...decide lol.

hola again Mr_Poop,

if you are looking to buy a new Barton2500 retail, get one from newegg.com, they are $90.00 right now.

for the ASUS, (which is a good board!), check newegg.com also, as they have the older revision for $88.00 and the newer revision that supports 400FSB Barton's for $119.00

as for Barton overclocking, I have easily hit 2.2Ghz with mine (XP2500) at 197x11 (well not quite 2.2 but close, and that was with HyperX PC2700...will easily get 210X11 or 220X11 with my new Buffalo CH-5 DDR400 RAM when it arrives!) using only an SK-7 + 80mm ThermalTake SmartFan2. Some guys getting better than this even =)

ASUS A7N8X (best one) - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=13-131-436&depa=1

Barton 2500 Retail - http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=19-103-379&depa=1 (actually its $88.00 on sale now!)

Newegg is the best US online retailer with hassle-free returns, excellent prices, and fast shipping (especially if you live west of the Rockies!)

Let me know =)

Travis

EDIT: ooooops...I just noticed you are ordering from a Canadian retailer...my bad bro, I am slow today (IIS + Half-Life = killing my brain).

Those prices look pretty good for CDN dollars. I'd definitely turn myself on to both the Barton and the ASUS (yes, even though I work for DFI nad think their boards are the best, the ASUS and the Abit NF7-S are both excellent boards!)

all the nf2 boards handle the 333fsb

yeah but his compaqboard is an nf1 revision 2

"Chipset nVidia nForce rev. B2 "

imo asus is...lets just say i wont buy an asus board :p

abit is decent but im really likin my DFI lan party NF2 ultra :D

Did you look at the board to see any model number?

I have bought a few boards off eBay that people couldn't identify but had good chip-sets and I was able to find the manufacturer and specks from serial numbers on the boards.

AIDA32 is one of the best oc tools, a lot quicker than
sandra for checking your system, puts a smaller load
on your system too but if you oc too far it will still
lock it up.great for checking your ram settings,as well as
your bios revisions
