hey guys, i got screwed over ...my cousin was suppose to bring me some AS and an FOP38 yesterday from Toronto but showed up without it...**** me off.

My question is, how harmful can it be to run my k7t pro2-a with duron 700 without any thermal paste??(for the meantime) I'm idle at 40c without any paste between cpu and h/s.

tks

A simple way, is to run it as you say without AS and start the computer, enter BIOS, look at the temp there.

If u can stay under 60c untill you get the AS, not to worry.
I have a FOP-38 , it sounds like a Sportscar....40c idle TB1.2@1.5

I would wait for some thermal grease.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Where in T.O. was your cousin supposed to buy that stuff for you? Cuz I just payed 50$ for a FOP38, and 15$ for AS II. Did you find a better price? I got mine at a store called PCCanada.

do yal have radio shacks up there. It would be very nice to have some thermal grease there. The fop38 normally has a pad on it. That would be fine in the meantime. But i would not advise running it without compound, especially since the FOP38 really needs to be lapped.

Yes, we have Radio Shacks "Up Here", but unfortunately, none of the ones that I checked had any thermal grease, and none of the local computer stores had any Arctic Silver II OR Global Win FOP38 hsf's. I had to drive into Toronto from Grimsby (you read as: bum F*** nowhere) to pick up some. But I got it!

Try the Radio Shack again. Tell them you want part no. "276-1372", this is the part no. for their heat sink compound in a 6.5g tube. Sometimes the employees at those types of stores need a little bit of help. If they haven't got it in stock they should be able to get it in a few days.

Good luck!

I agree. Some of the wonderful folks at the 'Shack can be less than helpful. No matter what, you'll want at least some kind of thermal paste when running any of the higher speed AMD CPUs. They fry too easy to take a chance.

I wouldn't try running without thermal grease. I've gotten lots of questions from people to the effect of "Why is my system crashing under load?". More often than not, they had not put any thermal grease on their CPU and it heated up too much and crashed. You can expect the same if you run without grease.
