View Full Version : need help w/ Linksys BEFSX41
I just installed this router I bought from Starfoxer.
My problem is since I installed it, my file sharing is next to nothing my upload speed is fine but my downlaod speeds suck.
I have no idea how to open the ports or forward the ports in the configurator. Can someone please help me:o :o

192.168.1.1 entered into a browser should get you the logon screen for the router. Enter the password. Once in the setup screens across the top you should see tabs, on the extreme right is one marked "Advanced", click on it and the next screen should have more tabs, one of which is for "Forwarding".
Not sure what ports you need to configure or forward but that is where you do it.

yep i got to that point but when i enter the ports and hit apply nothing happens it just goes blank again like i never put anything in the fields

Not sure what might be going on. Best suggestion is the question, Have you tried to communicate with "Starfoxer", about this as he/she should have the best insight into exactly how this particular piece of hardware has acted in the past?

Can you reach 192.168.1.1 on your end, now I can't even reach the configurator

Well 192.168.1.1 is an internal IP address on your network. If I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser it will bring up the setup screens for MY router. There are some provisions for "Remote Administration" on some models of Linksys routers, however that is an option which must be initially setup through a locally connected machine.

If you cant get to the configuration page anymore its probably dead. :(
Hey Skyhook thanks for your help. I got it figured out. I did not know you had to assign each computer it's own IP address that is different than the actual IP from your service provider. Once I did this and forwarded the ports and entered the right IP all my ports i wanted open are now open and now I am sharing and downloading like a mad man again.
Oh yea and also I downloaded the user manual HA HA HA that helped a great deal:)

i had a d-link router that would reset itself after every few minutes after i upgraded the firmware... now that really sucked... had to go out and buy a new router and this one doesn't work very well... i can't view my website from my computer here due to the router not allowing loopback port forwarding... it is the exact same model as a matter of fact...
what can I do to fix this problem.?? I read somwhere on this forum that a gentleman put a hub between the modem and the router and that fixed the shut down problem. He said there was to much voltage coming out of his modem and it was causing he router to shutoff unexpectedley. This sounds alot like my problem.
Anyone have any other ideas on how to fix this??

Reading things like this makes me have the uncontrolable urge to smash my forhead against concrete until I loose conciousness :p ;)
I am sure glad that these forums are not full of unhelpful people such as yourself beast. We can not all be geniouses like you Beast. Sometimes I feel sorry for people such as yourself, that know everything, life must be pretty boring for someone like this.
Are these forums for expert computer gurus, or are they for people to come here and get help and learn how to fix their computer problems ,so in turn they can possibly help someone down the road with the same or similar problem.
If, and I say if people like myself did not post questions on this forum where would your post count be and where would this wonderful forum full of knowledge be.
If you do not have anything intelligent to add to a post do not post in the thread, please. Oh and do not post in any of my threads if all you are going to do is be abusive.

Cutter,
Leave "Beast" have his opinion and his say, it in no way affects my or other's willingness to try and lend a helping hand. If I can be so bold, I would suggest that you guys both just bring it down a couple of notches, and maybe try to find some common ground you can both be helpful to others on.
If not, continue on the current path and pretty soon someone of authority will be pointing out their displeasure.
Respectfully,

I am not going to resort to your childish idiocy.
However I am going to inform you that when a sentance, or a post trails with ; ) or: p its ment in a jestful manner.
But I will remember that you obviously lack any apparent sense or human and I will, in the future, state everything in a bland fashion since you can not grasp anything above that.
Oh, incase you were wondering. To most people

would translate to
Don't worry about it, even the best of us make mistakes. Often times the problem is as simple as over looking something, Like the manual. Makes you want to smack yourself dosn't it? :p ;)
