I've got this board in my backup rig with an XP1700 and a Volcano 9 heatsink and my temps are 50c idle and 56c load.

Case cooling is good, and I even reseated the hs twice and lapped it.

I think the motherboard sensors may report temps high on this board. Anyone else have this problem?

Oh yeah, the board doesn't seem to mind an FSB of 150mhz, so I'm getting 1650mhz at stock vcore voltages :)

I have a k7s5a pro that reports 61 at load and 55 idle.

I have a xp1700 and a slk-600 with an 80mm fan. It seems the sensors are off but I havent tried a external temp guage...yet:)

I have a similar rig. Here's the situation:
OK, I think I'm making progress.

I reseated the heatsink and that seems to help. At idle the case is 42C and CPU is 48C. (Before it was 41 and 51.) After 10min of 100% CPU (Prime 95) the CPU quickly rises and stays at 54C. Sure, 10 mins is not a very hard stress test but it shows a big improvement over the 79C that it climbed to after 3 mins on Prime 95.

After all the positive responses to my posts I think I might have enough courage to try a little overclocking. I have an Athlon XP 2000+ (Sandra says it's a T-bred). My mobo is an Elitegroup L7VTA VIA-KT400.
I've since bought an AMD 1800 and it also has high temps. Right now I'm running at 53 deg with no OC at idle.

I think there might be 2 problems: First, I'm using generic heat sink compound (I'm going to try some AS3 soon). However, I also think the mobo has problems. I know this board is very bad for OCing. I'm planning to get a better mobo.

I tested my CPU with the side open. These measurements were taken several times and in random order. The room temp is 27C.

4500 / 37 / 44

Side open, under load (Prine 95)

Fan RPM / Box Temp / CPU Temp
