my friend wants a sys (no extreme o/c ) (he shal join the dark side soon hahaha) and depending on the deal he may not get a mobo. so if he donst he needs a good board that can o/c decently if i convert him...and no via chip sets we know what a POS those are.

what about those single channel NF2 Boards like A7N8X-X or even the 8rDA+ those boards are in the 80s range =d nice boards too

Are we talking cheapest?

If he wants a cheap mobo with sound so good, he doesn't need a sound card, then it's Epox 8RDA+. It's an overclocking champ in the $80 range.
Make sure it's the plus version.

But as long as it's an nForce2 mobo, he should be ok.

If he doesn't need sound, I would look into Soltek, + check this out

Increasing the FSB changes the speed of the whole motherboard and everything connected to it unless the mobo has a PCI lock.
The following nForce2 boards have a confirmed PCI lock:
Epox, Abit, Asus, Chaintech, Soltek, MSI, Gigabyte
It is unclear whether Leadtek nForce2 has a PCI lock.

VIA boards do not have a PCI lock.

try the new epox 8rd3+ I think that is the model it's on newegg for like $110 comes with rounded cables lots of good reviews. I thin it is going to be my next one, there is also a biostar on there for around $60 that has an overclocking bios.

they are both highly rated and I have friends that use them both. I think I will be getting my buddy into one soon as well. toms hardware also gave the thumbs up to the new epox.

Here is a review of a single channel NF2 board. Runs < $80 at newegg. - This is a must read for anyone that thinks single channel boards can't come close to duals. It even beats some of the ultra 400's in some tests!

Here is a link to the Soltek boards at Newegg.

Single channel is great because you don't have to be so picky about your memory. As the guys at Anand Tech say, this would be a great base for a simple gaming box.

P.S. I really don't know what people have against VIA. I've used a lot of different chipsets and they all have their quirks. The VIA's don't seem to have any more than even some of the Intel chipsets I've worked with. -(shrugs)-

prev to nforce platform via was the standard. I just think the n force boards work a little better. I know biostar has always been bottom line, but everyone can get it together every now and again.
