View Full Version : yea so i might get my whole school folding..
YEAP! Ive talked to some teachers, and the computer tech guys, and some low administrators. They all love the idea and will support me. Now im writing a letter to the principle and vice principle. IF they say no, well then im gona make flyers saying how evil the school is....well maybe not evil, but im gona do something, unless they actually talk to me and their reasons for declining the project are good.

Whoa!!! Holy Borg-o-rama Batman?!?!?! That would rock, we've been waiting for an uber-folder to come along and help us get back in the race for the top 2 positions, I wish you all the luck in the world.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing, but since the computers don't run XP or NT (they all run 98 in worst case some are running 95), I wouldn't be able to do the FAH deployer install, and I would hate to ask the admin to go through all the work of setting up all of those pcs by himself.

Now hold on there a second wedo, i didnt say the school would fold for team 32. They will probably start their own team. I will try and get them to fold for team 32, but i dont think they will.

Either way, at least the spare cycles won't be wasted. Have you asked that they fold for team 32 with the school name as a user name?
just tell them their team number is 32 :D ;)

Either way you'll be doing a lot of good, but I'd suggest making a subteam for team 32. They'll fly up in the ranks in no time, and it'll benefit the team too :)

I have also been thinking about doing this with mine... We just got a lot of p4's in last year... About 30 of them in the lab. My sister and the daughter of the computer teaher are best friends-so that might help me. Thanks for giving me some inpiration to get off my butt to do this again. :)

yeah good job on the ethical way of going about it and not blasting the network install on as many machines as it takes.
try talking to them about it and see if they even care about the points. if they don't than they'll prolly not care what their team number and stats are.

Tks for the support guys. I got 4 teachers of mine letters so they can proof them and tell me how to make it sound better. If all goes well, Schoold admins should be reading them tomorrow.

As far as the points go, I think they weill start their team and get students involved with it. Im sure some teachers will even offer extra credit to students that run the client. But if they really dont care, then ofcourse they will fold for team 32.

Just a suggestion (since I'm always working for the team AND the cause)...
There is a school that folds for us during the summer, username ISS, and that way they have their own username but still fold under our team number. The kids can be involved by trying to help their school run up the stats in both our team AND in the Stanford rankings.
If the school folds for their own team, then they could end up with one team with one username which takes some of the fun right out of it.

True, the school username would always be at the top. But the students would create their OWN username and compete for 2nd place. Now if the school folded for team 32, then there would be the school username, and all the students names and all the people here at oc. OR just have all the students fold under the name of the school, but if that were to happen it wouldnt get the students intrest as much as folding under their own name. Thats just my opion.
I just want to get the school to fold.
p.s-its late, ive been cramming econ homework, and calculas homework so what i said may not make sense...

And yes the forums would get allot of new members if the students all folded for team 32. Specially if the teachers over extra credit (which im sure they will).

Well i got a response today...and it was NO!, because it has to be a district apporves program. BUt im not quitting just yet, i am writing another letter to the district to get it the client sponsored.

The computers on my school run windows 98, about.......150+comps im guessing, and they are...i dont know i havent been able to access that info.

What is it with school's running 98? My school runs 98 also. It would be alot easier if they ran 2000/Nt/XP. I would be able to use the fah deployer from OCAU one time and all the computers would be folding in less than 5 minutes.

id love to try it at my school but they have a hard enough time keeping the network running as it is and probly would not be too receptive to a new pice of software, especially when its just charity. :(
How about an update on this??? I am looking into it at my school also, going to see what happens. We need a good 30,000 points to even attempt to overtake anyone anytime in the future. Lets get there.

Man I wish my school was that nice. Our Admin is very very strict, he could be a drill instructor or something. Basically its his way or the highway.. :(
Plus our new CISCO lab got a bunch of P4s, I dont see why we need all that power but o-well. Maybe I can get the teacher on my side since he knows me from various programming classes b4.
Or I could get the admin in trouble for burning copyrighted software.... lol. *evil laugh* As you see I dont like our admin..
Even if I could convince him its a good cause he would complain about all the bandwidth it would use. Common our school has 2 dedicated T1 lines! Im in the CISCO class and we have have seen the campus server/data rooms, plus our teacher told us about the T1s, lol.

University of Alabama CS is #7 all users.
and eastms.edu (school??) is #4
