Sources up here that have inside information about the Duron 900`s, they will be coated to prevent reconnecting of any of the bridges. AMD says that all of the newer processors will be manufactured this way to prevent overclocking. That is for ALL chips not just the Duron's. Im sure that there will nbe a way to remove the coating, but that really sux for use-just 1 more way to fry a chip!! Plesae tell me what you think

I think this is just a rumor. I mean honestly dude, most of the new chips like the 1.2 Ghz t-bird are coming already unlocked! U don't even have to unlock them anymore. So why would AMD who is now just leaving chips unlocked start preventing them from being unlocked at all?

Also remember the rumor about AMD removing the pins from the bottom of its CPU's to make sure u couldn't unlock them anymore? Well did that ever happen? nope.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

this is prolly a rumour being spread by all those jealous hardcore intel fans...

it's like the bike shop I used to work for - the competition started spreading rumours about us e.t.c - same sorta thing

Besides, why would AMD want to lose the 'Great' reputation it has in the overclocking world right now.... I'll bet it accounts for a significant portion of its chip sales. I certainly suggest their chips to people that don't even know what overclocking is... al in the hopes that they'll discover it one day and have a chip they can turn up a little.

The 1.3 & 1.33 mHz chips appear to be unlocked so they can be run on motherboards that do not have the proper settings in BIOS.

i read somewhere.. i forget where, but it was a big site.. perhaps anandtech.com... that some amd spokesperson had said in so many words that they were not going to stop overclocking of their processors in the future. i wish i could remember the site, cos it was nice to see...

solves this problem, though.. if it's true.
