i'm having a amd duron 650..asus a7v 133.. and i have already unlocked the L1 bridges....i havent' overclocked it yet but the temps are kinda high...44 C idle and 48-51C under full load..
i mean does the location determines the temp of my cpu? cuz i 've seen u guys like having 38C and all those...really weird man..
i'm using the FOP 38..its making a hell of a noise..sometimes when it rains..i cant even hear the rain drops on the roof...talk about serious noise!
Anyway u guys know any other way to cool it down ..other than water cooling of course!

Ok, first things first.
An often made mistake is not to include a good heattransfering paste between the CPU and the Cooler. (BTW a too large a dose is almost as bad)
Are you sure the cooler is actually touching the cpu?
Have you by any chance turned up the core-voltage beyond the normal values (more than 1,60 volts?)
Do you have a small case for the pc? The larger teh case, the better the coller can do its job.
If all of this isn't the case there remain (in my opinion) two options.
1st) your cooler is defective (could explain the excessive noise)
2nd) You got a very bad sample from the Duron series.
Tell me if this helped.

One thing that needs to be asked before we start calling chips defective:
What are you using to measure temps on your motherboard? I'm just going to assume that it is something like Motherboard Monitor... which has a habit of not reporting 'true' temps. Mine reports almost 10°C higher than the temp really is. The others reporting lower temps may have removed/figured in this error, or are using a more accurate method (read: thermocouples).
You might also want to examine the airflow inside the case... large or small, poor airflow will just force your cooler to blow pre-heated air back across the heatsink. Try taking one side off your case and placing a fan blowing in. If your temps go down by a few degrees, you might want to look into some better case cooling.

1st, apply a THIN layer of thermal grease. like Arctic Silver.
2nd, do you have enough Airflow in your case? 3rd, Check the voltage settings in your bios
keep trying

Lol.... you could also supply it with less voltage, like 0. That should keep it cool, and save you the trouble of moving.

if i lower the voltage..can i still over clock the thing?

It is possible, I personally have set my voltage to 1.5 and run my D700 at 800, but I never tried any higher than this. I need to go back and see just how high it will go...
I'v got a T-Bird 1000@1302 1.825V Idle@25C Full load @ 40C,I have a PAL 6035 with a 38cfm GW fan,Use a thin layer of Artic Silver and make sure you have as much case cooling as possible,I'm planning on putting in another fan for intake and another one for exhaust on mine. Make sure you hs is seated properly.

well buy arctic silver thermal paste, and make sure you have go plenty of circulation in your case. my case is a screamer but the lowest temp ive had on my t-bird was bout 34 celcius.

how do i lower the voltage?
and what should i use to cut holes/shapes in my casing?

RTFM... Read the Friendly Manual.
It should have a nice section on how to raise or lower the voltage. I'm not familiar with the A7V133, but on my A7V I have the option of setting jumpers or changing it in BIOS(had to update for that option). The manual should have a good little segment dedicated to the proper jumper settings for each voltage increment available to your mobo.

make sure you dont have the fop hs/f on the sosket backwords. when i did that my temps sored.
Check and see if your clip is on backwards. The clip, if put on one way puts pressure on one side of the heatsink instead of on the cpu die. On mine the hinged part of the clip is on the top side of the socket.

its perfectly clipped in the socket..i'm very sure of that....
oh geeez.....i hate this
use a dreizel saw or something like that, its a circular bit attached to a normal drill... i'm trying to find one too. Well.. if u want a better job, bring the case or panels to a metal workshop , draw out the lines nicely and ask them to do the job for you, give em a little cash and u'r set with nice intake holes. :>

I did my holes freehand with a dremel. If you're careful, it can work quite well. Or you can buy some hole saws - they're probably not too expensive.

how do i lower the voltage?
In case you haven't found it yet voltage settings are in the BIOS...Advanced...CPU Vcore Setting...[User Define] option which gives a new menu for voltages.

and if you like the temps, goto http://www.confederate-eagle.com/ and check out the water-cooling project.
Quite, and cool
Thats a duron 700 at 899 btw.

need to update the sig?
I have an Asus A7V133 and have had the exact same problems to begin with, was getting temps 49 to 51 with the case off, now i got 38 to 41 with case off, here what i did
1. **** off Asus probe and install MBM5.05, available through a link on this site.
2. I also have the same fan as yourself, i got rid of the thermal tape on the bottom, and lapped the bottom of the heat sink to get it as smooth as possible.
3. Reposition heatsink using a good thermal paste.
4. Drop the core voltage down, I dropped mine to 1.52V for my A900, do it through the jumpers on the board since the bios will just reset to 1.7 or something. Remember more power more heat generated.
5. Kick back its overclocking time.
Good luck

Nah, not really. I was messing around one day to see how low I could get my voltage to go. I turned everything back up when I was done.

Here is a link on cutting blowholes for better cooling. I did 3 of them in my case and it does help.

cool website there.....i envy u guys who get low idle temps!!]]
anyway..if i lower the vcore voltage..i still can over clock it right?
