View Full Version : a way to skip cpu burning in!!

i found something out with my duron 700. after taking out my duron for M/B repairs, i noticed when i put it back in that i couldn't get 1.35 anymore!! :( this realy worried me. after about an hour of thinking i thougth of something. The pins got dirty!!so i took out my cpu and dipped the pins in a little dish of rubbing alcohol and i was instantly able to get back up to 1.35 and 3 MHz higher!! so my conclution is, clean those pins for better contact!! your cpu will thank and reward you! :) :) :) 8)
I think I might try that, then I might be able to hit the gig!

hmmm, very interesting
are u serious cooked>?........if so all i have to say is DAMN!
when i first got my a7v and duron 600, i was able to hit 1124mhz pretty stably. then i did a peltier experiment, during the course of which i filled my socket with thermal paste to stop condensation on the pins. this didn't affect my oc'ing at all. it's still full of thermal paste, which coats the pins every time i put the cpu in, and it hasn't affected my overclock at all. i still get the same numbers.
my 2 cents...

Sounds impressive - got any benchmarks? Is that with the same 2.5V vcore that your duron has, and what cooling? Just interested cos I'd only heard of those crazy Japanes breaking 2gig with nitrogen cooling and weird stuff, lol. Respect! :-)

Dude, you mean the pins that go into the socket? Dip those in rubbing alcohol? Hey, I might just try that!

same cooling(modified super orb)adn same volts (2.5) this baby is still going strong
WOW that's what I call an OC! How fast could u get ur 1.33Gig, before u did the thing with the pins?

cpu code is : AXIB new gen i suspect (i ordered it factory order don't expect to see it in stores yet!)
Mann that's fantastic! Do u have some bench's? I would love to compare my Duron against a 2 gigger T-Bird
Wow, looks like it's time to start saving my pennies for an AXIB. While I love my Duron 650@1050 a 2ghz t-bird is definitely worth looking at.

Well, I tried this little project with my Duron 700, and didn't have quite the results that cooked did. In fact, I lost a little performance. Before I was able to sit at 909 (9*101) stably; after, I'm stuck down at 859(8.5 * 101). These were my results last night, I'm going to get back into it and hopefully regain the lost ground somehow tonight. Anyway, this still warrents some research before we say that it works or doesn't work.

When I see the benchmarks..........
how did you dipt them in alchohol?
i mean, wouldnt you worry about shorting it or something? maybe some alchohol will get into the chip? isnt it toooo riski ?
and did anyone find it helpfull ?

thats insane! what are your 3dmark scores / sandra scores?
and what is the mult/fsb?
Yeah I'd have to See The BenchMarks for a 2Ghz B4 I could Believe that...Especially if it's off of Air Cooled. And I'm Sure you guys have Seen OC's Post talking about how to Trick the Benchmarks or something...Someone Posted a Pic. of a 12000Ghz....So I'm not sure If I'd believe that either. Don't mean to sound so negative, but You gotta admit..2Ghz sounds awful High for Air Cooling.

Why skip burning in...its possible that both techniques could be of benefit for different reasons and therefore reap a double boost. :)
Hey Cooked, is this the same machine that you claimed to have running in a bar refridgerator but conveniently couldn't get a pic of? Show me the picture and benchmarks....

THE CPU IS NOT AIR COOLED!!! IT IS A MODIFIED SUPERORB(turned it into a water block) FOR GOD"S SAKE DO NOT TRY THIS WITHOUT WATERCOOLING!!!!!!P.S. the comp is in a rather cold basment, a 16" fan constintly blowing into the case with 2 * 300WATT power supplies on a dedicated circuit and my water is cooled with a full siezed rad and the tank is an aluminum pot. ONLY UNDER THESE CONDITIONS WAS I ABLE TO GET 2GHZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and 166MHz ram was used :) :) :) 8)

I'm with Daniel. Not calling you a liar but that is an incredible difference in for having just dipped the pins in alcohol. And I don't see how this would replace burning in. Anyone else try this yet?

3Dmark 2K scores!!
with duron at 1140(think it's starting to die): 6516
with athlon at 2000: 8367
score is being held back by a crapy geforce 256DDR at 170/333

You must have just beet me to the post. Yeah, I can see 2 gigs under those circumstances and if the processor had been very dirty. Still some benchmarks would be cool (if it will run them).

my 2 cents: think of it this way, it may have been a dirty socket too. I came to this conclution because when i put the cpu back in the socket, each time the pins were still dripping with alcohol. hence the left over alcohol may have cleaned the socket even! Just think of all the hours of dust and other room environmental impurities that could get in and under the socket. do you not think that the dirt in the socket could cheapen your contact??(please, after doing this, give the socket atleast 2 minuets to dry before pluging it back in. I don't want any fried circuits on my hands :) )
I don't think anyone is calling you a liar but it's kinda hard to believe without so much as a single screen shot or pic of your comp POSTing with a cpu speed on it. I read a couple of articles where Japanese guys had gotten AXIA's up to 2.1 GHz or so but they used liquid nitrogen to do it. If you did get it that high, all I can say is WOW, but if you want people to stop hounding you I would just toss up a couple of bench screen shots or pics.

Just take a screen shot of your benchmark results. You dont need a camera do you, i dont think so.

Well have sandra do a CPU bench and open up the System summary section, move the info around so everything can be shown, then press the printscreen button and paste it in a photo editor and post that.

hey cooked all you gotta do is hold -CONTROL and hit the Print Scrn button up by the scroll lock and that will copy your screen-then create a new .bmp file on the desktop and once it is open just control+v and itll paste the picture.
Sheesh you guys are gullible!

cc... it's one sure fire way to get everyone off your back: post some pics. run wcpuid, have the window active and press alt+print_scrn and it will copy a pic of the active window. better yet, run that and the relevant sandra bmarks, arrange them so everything can be seen, and press print_scrn on its own to take a shot of the whole desktop. it'll take you five minutes..

i dept my cpu into alchohol too, and now i can hit 2.4 ghz,
(before dipt i could do 975) talking about a good overcock!

i guess i can fit the trend (lying of course)
duron 600 that got to 3ghz! 3.35v core!
a lot of this post sounds like a bunch of bs.
I agree. How did you get the pic of your basement, and those other pics you have posted all over the place if you don't have a camera? If someone else took the pics, why didn't you have that person take a pic of the inside of your case?
(I diped my entire PC in a case of alcohol and it does 3.4 ghz for about 5 minutes. Oh well, beggers can't be choosers I guess. LOL)
i spilld my vodka yesterday all over my mobo, and my duron 800 can now hit 2 billion ghz!!!!!
i got couple of hundred fps in quake2 (lowest settings ofcurse)

I think Dan said this once, "Big Claims Require Big Proof" or something to that effect, i, as many others are not calling you a liar, we just need some benches, pics that is. You got PSP? Go capture....you can figure out the rest. I'd also like a pic of the vcore at 2.5 as that is quite something.....

Look at my screen shot I couldn't afford a digital camera so I borrow me 1 from K-Mart (hope they didn't catch me stealing it. lol). taking a screen shot isn't hard at all. Just hit print screen, paste it into paint, save it as a jpeg and attach it here. I have a very very hard time believing this. The superorb is a bad hsf, and even modded to use water it still isn't that great of a water cooler. The aquastealth unit is even better, and the danger den is even better than that. I have a hard time figuring out how they can get to 2ghz using this and peltier while you are there on a modded Sorb. But I hope you can make me eat my words.

seeing all these posts got me thinking. i took out my old 75mhz pentium and got to work on it. my friends and i went out partying and got a lot of booze. after coming home, we carefully poured gin, scotch, bourbon, and vodka onto the motherboard and also saturated the processor with it. we turned it on and it ignited, burning one of friends. however, it seems that the flames enhanced the performance. the ole pentium is now running at 6 ghz!each time i boot up i throw a bottle of liquor in there and it works like a charm. i dont know if just lighting it on fire will work though, someone out to try it out and let us know.
