Guys Im building myself a new Overclocking monster/Gaming beast computer. This computer I want to last at least 1 year, more like 2 though. Im pretty much shelling out for it because i want to have overclocking it and the works. So heres what it looks like so far:

btw im selling my current system (in sig) for 600$ to my brother = where about 60% of the funding will be coming from.

So how does this look:

Abit NF7-S 2.0 Motherboard
xp2500+ Barton cpu
Radeon 9800np (9800 pro bios flash)
SLK-900u w/ 92mm tornado (ASIII too)
80 gig WD SE 8mb cache HD (already have)
52x32x52 black liteon cd-rw (already have)
16x black liteon dvd-rom (already have)
Thermaltake Xaser III V1420A black steel case (gonna use hardcano to control tornado, fyi)
Altec Lansing AHS-502 headset
Logitech z560 4.1 THX speakers

but here's where im stumped: the ram

I've pretty much got it narrowed down, I want some mushkin high lvl performance black ram, and i want one gig of it.

My first choice would be the obivous, 512x2 pc3500 level 2, 2-2-2 timings @ 2.5volt, 433mhz the price tag is about 350 with the 10% code.

he pc3200 stuf is 325 with the code and its 2-2-2 400mhz, and lastly the level 1 pc3500 stuff is 2-3-3 @ 433 mhz, and is around 270 for the gig after the 10%.

Do you guys think i should just shell out and get the 1 gig level2 pc3500 stuff? im gonna be using this ram for a pretty long while and its obviously the best perfomer, or should i save about 90$ and get the level one stuff?

Also any other suggestions about the hardware that ive picked out? im getting some round ide cables to replace the flat ones also. Any feedback would be great guys, thanks again.

look good to me. I think I would save the $90 and get the level 1 ram. It may do all you want it to.

well you'll probably need some case fans

might as well get several low DB fans, than one tornado!

liek the name says, its not exactly silent

i would go with corsair, pc3200, or 3500

and get 2 sticks of the same type (256x2, 512x2) so you can run dual channell

also 1gb is more or less overkill right now...

but never hurts to be prepared i guess lol

if you want to buy 512mb 1 stick rigth now

then just save up and in a few months get another 512 when they are cheaper

you could do that too, because dual channell although somewhat important is only a small performance boost

yeah definitly only 512 for now, all u need is the same stick for dual channeling,, lvl1 seems fine to me

i would say where are you getting you mem from? 270 for 2x512? http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80098-6

i dont really see the advantage for low latency ram, as the gain isnt that much. i think the linked memory would be fine if i was building one and its 91 a stick(no shipping either)

i dont want to have to upgrade my comp down the road, im pretty sure w/ 2.9 vdimm the levelone stuff could do 220 @ 11-2-2-2 i mean tis guranteed 2-3-3 @ 2.5 @ 217

Uh......1 gig is definetly not overkill. When you play games such as Bf1942 and other new titles you can really notice a difference. Load times for the maps in BF42 were cut nearly in half when I played ona friends comp with 1gig of ram. If you have the cash go for it...wish I did.

As for the case, I can understand that a lot of it is person preference but the Xaser III's seem to be filled with lots of useless cheap looking parts such as the big plastic blue thing on the door that has 2 fans......sorta tacky IMHO. I just got a Coolermaster wavemaster (TAC-T01) a few weeks ago and I can honestly say it is the best $148 I have ever spent. Every thing has thumbs screws from the removeable mobo tray (makes it worth the money alone) to the pci cover panels. Its that sort of quality attention to detail thats great. It also has great airflow with 2 80mm intakes and 1 80mm exhaust. It keeps the inside cool without the racket of many fans. Something you may want to consider.

What ever you decide on goodluck with your project.

thats the thing, are you sure 1 exhuast fan is enough and 2 intakes are enough to keep things cool? Maybe i could replace the 3 with 3 more powerful ones 39cfm panaflo, and get a fan controller or something, yeah i do likethe coolermasters, but i dont know if they could really keeps things cool the way i want them too, plus ~150 + ~70 for pus + fans and conrtoller is alot of money.

I personally dont like a lot of side panel fans. I think that they disrupt good air flow. My coolermaster has really great airflow. The 2 intakes give plenty of fresh air. You must also not forget that the 1 80mm fan in the back is not the only exhaust. Your PSU will also have a fan exhausting air. You could buy higher cfm fans such as the $7 antec ones at newegg, they arent loud but have a little more power that the ones the coolermasters come with. IMO, the default fans my case came with are plenty.

i read sites that say the exhuast is a 10cm airflow guide...what does that mean exactly..?

Uhhh.....not sure if you mean "cfm" and not "cm", but my exhaust fan is as powerfull as my intakes. I would say about 32 cfm.

sounds good besides the case. I have a Xaser and absolutlely hate it.

yeah, im already ditching it, and am looking into a cooler master atc-111 black case, but finding a retailer selling it at a decent prive is like a needle in a haystack folks. The 201 superflower is also a case im considering.

newegg has really good prices. I got my TAC-T01 for $148, while it was about $170 every where else.
