The one that was posted here a while back while General Chat was open? Home video of a kid pretending he had a light sabre, and we all (a lot of us, myself included) poked fun at him?

My brother was the one who sent me the link to this a few weeks ago. It's bad enough when someone is picked on in school. Now try to imagine hundreds of thousands of people making fun of him. Imagine how he felt. I feel so ashamed of myself for having participated in contributing to what he's going through. I just had to get that off of my chest. Not that it really makes me feel any better, but it helps.

I have to admit I found it funny, of course at the same time I can't say I didn't respect the guy less for that. All those people that laugh at him or disrespect him for that are not realizing the fact that most of us have done exactly what he has done.

But, I never did step back and think about the enormity of what this kid is going through. Just think of some of your old video tapes of you as a kid, doing something stupid, and it's released all over the net. I can't speak for everyone, but to be honest, I would hate to be the subject of a mass email forward. It's bad enough to receive forwards in my email, would be worse if it was pointing to a video of me being a Jedi.

The main problem I have is all the geeks sitting at their desks getting a laugh out of this. Mainly the ones who make fun of that poor kid. Yes, the same geeks that never washed their hair quite enough and played Magic The Gathering.

Heh, people sit on computer forums all day, and call this kid a geek!

(Not that theirs anything wrong with sitting on computer forums all day)

I'm sure everyone can connect...there's something we've done in our past that was ultra geeky and we'd prefer others to not know. Especially those of the opposite sex.

I'll spill my beans...I used to play Star Trek as a kid. I used to want to play Riker so I could lead away missions. I wouldn't be to thrilled if a video of me running around like Riker as a kid got out...(luckily, none exist)

It's easy for some of us to sit around and chuckle at our geekiness. I personally find being called a geek or comptuer nerd a compliment. To me, that means the person saying it is totally owned by my incredible computer knowledge. :)

But for those of us who went through highschool or are in it now, and remember how much it sucked when other kids found out we watched Star Trek or Star Wars, you can sort of understand what this kid is going through.

Maybe if he was older, he'd find the humor in it, share a good laugh, and try to exploit the video for money. (That's about how I'd attack the problem...) But, he's just a kid, and he sees things in terms of social status in school...and that video is gonna make a bad thing worse in his eyes.

So I feel sorry for him. It's still funny though...but like I said, I'm not going to lose respect for him just because of that. It's funny more becuase of how many of us will relate to that. But when I think that his home video has gained such an audience, and audience that might not share my sentiments, I truly do feel sorry for him.

Yeah, okay, I maybe understand what he's going through (or maybe not since I wasn't the one who got put through this)

But another part of my head is screaming: "What the heck kind of kid sues his classmates for 160 thousand dollars?"

That's 40 grand a family. Seeing how he's not exactly living in a rich neighbourhood, maybe that kind of money can take down 4 other families with him?

the town he lives in is french. americans don't know french so for all i know he lives in canadian beverly hills.

it's a good point though. 40g's canadian doesn't go far. in america that'd be a multi million dollar deal. it'd be the schools fault and if public school the states fault.

labatt says "look up. see blue." well here it's "look down. see green"

i am sorry, but i find some of the remixes hilarious. i know that it is mean what his classmates did, but you gotta admit, some of the ideas used are pretty good. i personally think the space ghost "remix" (http://www.adultswim.com/webcam/gal_mov/sg_kid/index.html) is one of the funniest yet...
