View Full Version : AMD 750 running at 1000 but hot! How do i get it cooler?
Been playing about with my Tbird for a bit and have it at 1000, but its about 60c when at full wack. before had problems with air flow cuz my power supply was right infront of my cooler. I mounted that on that back of my case and its about 10c cooler. If i change my ram so i can have 133 and have a lower multiplier to get it to 1000 would it be cooler ? or make no difference? My cooler is a cooler master, runs at about 5,400rpm.
If i get a better cooller what are the lickley
differences? how much differnce does thermal grease make? Im considering getting a double fan with massive heat sink will this help?
Does anyone know if i should ridk going higher than 1000? oh and i have that motherboard monitor and it says im running at 1003mhz?

sounds like lack of air flow in and out of the case.
what is temp in bios?
what is temp at idle and full load?
what kind of mobo do you have?
your case allow you to install chasis fan one intake and another for outtake?

60C is running quite hot! The general concensus is anything above 50C needs to be fixed (below 30C is good, mid 40's is average). How hot do you run at std clock speeds?
Some of the methods to get better cooling are:
1) Good quality HSF.
2) Thermal compound (Artic Silver, even Radio Shack thermal compound) applied in a thin layer between CPU and HSF.
3) A case with good airflow. possibly additional front and rear fans.
4) Lapping the bottom of the HSF (sanding with 600 grit or finer sandpaper.
I currently have a FOP32 HSF, Artic Silver, and a Fong Kai FK320 case with 90mm rear and 120mm front fans (have not yet lapped HSF). My temps using MBM5 are under 45C.

Also...if your motherboard is an ASUS the program ASUSProbe generally reads about 10C higher than the BIOS temps. Motherboard Monitor seems far more accurate.

Man, 60 degrees is way too hot!
Get yourself a decent heatsink like an alpha.
Thermal grease is also essential
IŽm shure this will improve your temps by 10-15 degrees.
Go on like this, and youŽll frie your CPU sooner or later
