i wouldn't really go with a celly...altho im not an intel guru so i don't kno if that mobo supports p4....if it does go with a 2.4c. If it doesn't i'd suggest getting a new mobo. Amd if you want the cheaper route with a barton 2500+ and the more expensive route a p4 2.4c. These seem to be the best for overclocking in the high end range...altho with good cooling you can oc a 1700+ tbred B faster than the 2500...unfortunately you need to get the right stepping...which can be found in the CPU section of the forums.

Im guessing you have the money to go with intel because you are getting the fx5900 ultra. Good choice in card...i mean it is the fastest...so if you can afford that then go with the intel. You might not see great performance with the intel until you upgrade your ram to pc3200 or more tho...im not sure how high that ram goes

im sorry if this is a long and confusing post....maybe one of our other members can help you...

and btw.... WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!

The Celeron would be a major bottleneck in a system like that.

Current Setup:
Celeron 1.7Ghz (Fan: AC 4 TC Super Silent)
Soltek i845PE Motherboard
Innovision 128Mb Gforce4 MX440 SE (Fan: Tt Orange Orb)
80 Gb Samsung ATA100 7200rpm
1 Gb Ram M-Tec PC333 2700

well, from what i can tell, the hard drive and ram are definitely fine. i would guess that your main concern would be the processor. even though celerons work, i really wouldn't get one. just go for a p4. you will be much happier. are you going to be overclocking your system?

as for the video card, even though i like nvidia, i would probably have to go with something like a built by ati radeon 9800 pro (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=N82E16814102286) ($364 from newegg) as opposed to a $464 (cheapest on newegg) 5900 ultra.

you can get a p4 2.66b on newegg for $198 opposed to the $115 for a 2.6 celeron. the speed difference would be pretty substantial as the celeron has like 128 kb l2 cache and the p4 has 512 kb l2. the p4 should work in your motherboard. i checked soltek's website: http://www.soltek.com.tw/English/product/socket478.htm#845pe

Intel 845PE based motherboards:
SL-85DR3-CL
SL-85DR3-C
* Supports Pentium 4 processors@533/400MHz FSB
* DDR 333/266 SDRAM
* UATA100/66
* 6XUSB 2.0/1.1 Ports
* RealTek LAN Controller (SL-85DR3-CL only)

SL-85DR3-R
SL-85DR3
* Supports Pentium 4 processors@533/400MHz FSB
* DDR 333/266 SDRAM
* UATA100/66
* 6XUSB 2.0/1.1 Ports
* UATA 133/Serial ATA RAID (SL-85DR3-R only)
* 6-Channel AC'97 Audio

as for the motherboard, it depends on if you want to overclock or not. if you do, you might need to buy a new one and pay a little more for one with more options.

*edit: two people posted before i had a chance to post this... :)*

Thanks all :) And specialy mbentley i will reconsider my choise of CPu... but i think i might pay that little extra even it aint realy worth the price just yet for the 5900 cause i have been both beta testing Eve and Planetside (Still playing PS though) and i have read in the forums of both that most radeon users have big problems handling the new games that are coming.... and i whit my Budget card havent had ANY problems whit them (ok ok when 150 players are at the same place on PS it get laggy :) ) as for the Motherboard its on the lists off uppgrades just under the new FX card...

And i have been cruising around the board a bit and i must say its a wonderful board have learnt more in 4 hours then i learnt in the last 2 years about Comps Keep it up Guys/Girls and hope to see you alot more
