Does anyone have information on AMD unlocking T-Bird 266 CPUs?
I had heard that some of the T-birds are coming out with the L-1 bridges on 1.10, 1.20, and 1.33 were closed. Can anyone verify this.

I have just put together a system for a friend. A TBird 1.2 266. I was looking at the chip and I swear the L1 bridges look connect, sweet! Forget the pencil, that should make it stable as all hell changing the multiplier. Unfortunatly I am not sure yet as we have been waiting for a week for the hard drive (on back order). Once that comes in I'll be able to say for sure.

my friend got a duron 700 or 750 with the L1's still connected. he got it from www.compuplus.com Don't know about any other stories of those being unclocked from them. My duron 700 from www.upgradeplanet.com was locked however.

Thanks everyone for their comments. It does appear that some of the T-Birds and even some Duron are being released by AMD with the L-1 unlocked.
I have called several Computer Sales Companies (Tech Support) and none would commit to the event by AMD and made doubly sure that I knew than O/Cing would void their and AMD warranty if caught .... but they agreed that they also had heard the rumor.
One TS guy even went as far as to say that their is a code, which some people are asking for which point to "unlocked" chips. Now this is the first I have heard of this ... can anybody comment on this last point?

Hugo,
Thanks for the update, your experience puts a hole in the theory that CPU down to the 1.13 G are being released in "unlocked" form.

Jordon,
It appears that Hugo69 has had a different experience and recently received a LOCKed 1.13Ghz.
Can you but a little more specific to your posting. Did you actually receive an "unlocked" 1.13?

My 1.2 that I received last week was unlocked, I had to get a magnifying glass to be sure. However, it would not POST and went back.
I had found a conductive pen for $10 and was ready to order it. I am glad I did not. Now I have to wait and see what they send me as a replacement.

For the most part new cpu's coming down the pipeline seem to be coming out unlocked. If you are buying them in person just look at the L-1 bridge if your buying them online call and ask the vendor or look for ones advertised as unlocked. <g>.
Good luck with your purchase,
Sirfin~
Just received my new 1.3(266) from newegg.com, and it is unlocked.
